No more 4.0 GPA! booooo....

I know this seems trivial with all the problems we are facing today – heck, it seems “trivial” to the problems we are having at home such as bills, gas, situations we got to deal with, etc…
But I am incredibly bummed out about losing my 4.0 GPA and it was a great feeling to be on President’s List when I went from part-time to full-time last fall.
I had been carrying 4.0 GPA since fall of 2005 at Baker Online.
Then I took Principles of Microeconomics course. :(
I really busted my ass in that course with so many hours of studying and even requested tutoring every week. It is really time-consuming when you have to cover the entire book in 6 weeks!
And I was only two points away from A+.
Granted, I do appreciate the fact how difficult the course was and a lot of students did not do well in that course – only two people did better than me, out of 13 students.
Still, three years… and only four more courses to go, my GPA drops a point and I’m no longer on the President’s List. :(
It was my goal to graduate with a 4.0 GPA this fall.
I’ll get over it… eventually.
At least I got my education, eh? Well, we’ll see if I get a job here in this sorry state in Michigan.
No more President’s List… waahh, me.
Thanks for listening... I don't expect any responses or sympathy because I am fully aware of how fortunate I am to have this opportunity - and time - to obtain higher education when many don’t.

Cheer up, no one ever asked me what my GPA was on a job interview...
Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just something I wanted to personally accomplish for myself. Not to compete with others, but competing with myself.
long red - I don't know. Am I moron?
I'm a mother of four children with a husband working his ass off working overtime to make ends meet and I am on an internship, too.
I guess I'm a moron for competing with myself.
And I don't claim to be smarter than people who don't have college education - there are plenty of them, including my husband who dropped out of high school and obtained his GED years later.
But yeah, like eye said, I'll be alright. I am not going crazy or anything like that.
Just feeling bummed out, that's all.

for my BFA i wasn't 'aiming' for a 4.0, just wanted to do my best. i was a mostly A student and when i was getting closer to graduation, no, no 4.0....but i KNEW i was close to graduating summa cum laude. hard to remember. anyhoo.....at the time my father was VERY ill, i was arranging his homecare, etc. most of my profs knew this and were understanding. my grades did NOT suffer, but my attendance did. this one prick of a prof lowered my grade a whole letter grade due to my absences. he was an arse in any case.....but i was pissed. if i could manage to get an A on all my work/projects, etc, missing so much of actual classtime, obviously it wasn't all too necessary to be there eh? plus, he kept one of my scale models...then got fired over the summer....so he fucked my GPA - it was too late to contest by then AND walked away with one of my models, fucker. so, i graduated with a 3.68....magna cum laude. not bad, but still...i knew i was *this close* to summa.....c'est la vie.
i WILL say though, happily, when i went for my MA...i DID graduate with a 4.0. i was pretty proud/happy. my father already passed away by then, but i KNOW he would've been so happy/proud too. education was a *biggie* in his eyes. it WAS rather disconcerting though, seeing each and every class and wondering if that would be the *one* to blow it, etc...pressure. hahaha.
anyhoo, don't be too down on yourself. you still have accomplished SO much, and should be VERY proud b/c you still have a kick-ass GPA. besides, while it looks *good* on the resume....in *reality* it doesn't amount to much. and your GPA right now still will look DAMN fine on your resume!
edit - * corrected the greek.

3.9 - 4.0 Summa Cum Laude; 3.7 - 3.899 Magna Cum Laude; and 3.5 - 3.699 Cum Laude. Just for FYI.
Yeah, I know it doesn't mean shit to employers, but it means alot to me.
Congrats on 4.0 for your MA! AND your father IS proud up there!
I plan to go back for MA, but first get job and some experience...and after paying off the student loans!
Thanks for the smile, dreamn!

no. the whole issue WHY i didn't contest it in the first place was that i knew i was to have him the following semester for 2 courses, and didn't want to 'strain' the teacher/student relationship further. then, he goes and gets fired over the summer....which i did not know until i returned in september...and it was too late. :( such is life.
and i knew i had that all fucked up. hahaha. it was a looooooonnnnnnnggg time ago.
and yes, i took about 3 years off inbetween both degrees....and now i work in a field completely Unrelated to ANY of it. i will say though, i think this is the one job i ever got that i believe my GPA did impress em. would i have gotten the job without it? absolutely.....but none the less.....glad it made *some* impression, hahaha. ALL the time i taught, i don't think it mattered at ALL, and you would think if ANYwhere, it WOULD matter in an education career, eh? whatever.
as much as i LOVED going to school, i am soooooo done! ZERO desire to return to the classroom, as a studet or a teacher...at least for now. never say never and all that. learning is awesome and if you can swing a master's, go for it! however, if it will put a big strain on your finances i wouldn't bother UNLESS you KNOW it would make a big difference in your marketability/income. me, as an educator i HAD to get a master's.....so i never even gave it a second thought.
anyhoo...good luck!
btw....hmmmmmmmm...you sure on those #s? i am almost positive i had a 3.68......and got the 'middle' cum laude, hahaha. so if that's magna...yes...i definitely got that, but it doesn't seem to match with my GPA. or maybe i just don't remember my GPA correctly. damn, now you make me want to check. hahaha. so yes then, magna cum laude. i WANTED summa cum laude!

Maybe it's a little different for each state, I wonder? If not, then you need to double check your GPA!
I always thought I got a 3.94 when I got my associate's degree in CIS and it turned out it was actually 3.97! I was really happy because I was mad that I didn't get a 4.0 back then too! So that did make me happy.... lol.
Ah, it's the same field for BA but since I'm competing with outsourcing firms in programming, I've got to offer more!
I got you now re: your prof. Dang.
I probably will change my field later too when my kids are older - I want to major in psychology. I am always interested in people's behavior and why they think this way. No, I don't want to be a shrink!
From reading you here on the board, I know you are an awesome teacher!
Thanks for the wishes - gotta go and prepare for a speech for my advanced public speaking course and writing a paper for cultural diversity... do some studying...and still owing some hours on the internship.
Not to mention running errands and driving the kids to wherever they are supposed to be....
Five more weeks of hell and summer's here for me!

I give you MAJOR KUDOS for even making the effort. You wouldn't catch me going back to school. I couldn't even imagine.
I can't believe I just used the word Kudos
my love to you and yours
What's wrong with Kudos, Marsha?
Much love back at ya from the rich's.
Say hello to Liz for me when you talk to her - miss that crazy girl!

It's just very "un-Marsha" like
will pass on your message
perhaps?
and/or maybe over time they have changed it? i did graduate with my BFA back in errrr.....1992? i believe.
and sure, i was an awesome teacher. hahaha. now i am awesome at tax compliance. whateverrrrrr eh?
i love, love, love psychology! always have, always will! just zero desire to do anymore schooling! enough for me! and most definitely enough paying for it! thankfully, my parents paid for my BFA....but my MA...paid as i went. thankfully hubby and i could swing it, b/c man, that was rough! just about ALL my paycheck went to school, and hubby had to swing the mortgage and all else. not fun. glad to not have gotten in debt over it though, and most definitely woudln't want to go through that again. so, unless i win lotto...any/all career changes in the future will have to suffice on all my previous education and professional experience. haha.
btw - all i read is that programming is such a WIDe open field, tons of jobs and opportunities...as well as $$$.....so i wouldn't necessarily 'expect' to need a masters to be competitive at all. just my 0.02.
