I have not read a newspaper article that has had such an emotional effect on me for a long, long time. It will make you angry, terribly sad, and will also give you hope that this little girl could one day live at least a semi-normal life.

It moved me so much that I had to share. The writers of this piece did an incredible job, and it's one of the best written articles I may have ever read.

    Wow. I simply cannot understand how anyone (much less a MOTHER?!?) could neglect her child to this degree...it just breaks my heart. What's worse, is that there are probably other children out there in the same situation.

    So thankful that Dani has found a "forever" family.

    wow, i hear about a lot of child neglect cases because my aunt is in foster care, but i haven't heard of one this severe. it's amazing that the little girl has come this far.
    No need to be void, or save up on life...

    That reminds of a documentary I once saw about a girl in a similar situation in another country. I think it was Russia or some eastern block country.

    The girl in this story has 85% brain development. If I remember it right, the girl in the other story had less than half of her brain development. She did not even possess the motor skills to make speech. No one had ever said a word to her during her entire life.

    Yes, horrific.

    If the mother couldn't cope, why didn't she put her up for adoption? That would be very painful but if she loved her enough, it would be the best thing!

    sad to think this sort of shit still happens nowdays. :(

    Theres that much bloody help around, christ, they were even going to pay for her childcare....

    Its unfair to think of the people out there who, more than anything, want a baby and want to be able to feel a baby grow inside of them. And yet, theres these other people who can pop them out and not give a shit.

    How the fuck is that mother a free woman? That is infuriating. There are few things you could do worse that this, and yet she gets away with it. God damn.
