Better Venue: Verizon Amphitheater (VA Beach) or Verizon Center (DC)?

Hey guys, I can only go to one show this year. Out of these two, which venue do you recommend? I've been to a PJ show at the Verizon Center before and I really don't like arena shows....the sound is less than stellar.

However, VA Beach is a few hours away from me. If it has good sound I'd be willing to make the trip...

For anybody that's been to both, which one would you recommend in terms of experience and sound?
6-29-98 Chicago, 10-9-00 Chicago, 4-23-03 Champaign, 6-18-03 Chicago, 7-1-03 Bristow, 10-1-04 Reading, 10-11-04 DC, 9-30-05 Atlantic City, 5-30-06 DC, 6-17-08 VA Beach, 8-17-08 DC (Ed), 6-15-09 Baltimore (Ed), 5-13-10 Bristow, 10-29-13 Charlottesville, 4-18-16 Hampton

My guess would be the Verizon Amphitheater in VA Beach.

Without ever having gone to either for a concert, I'm gonna guess the amphitheater.

Outdoors > Indoors every day of the week.

DC sounded better to me. If you don't like the heat, it's indoors.

true it's all how you handle the heat.

i have seen them in both places.

i just think outside shows are way more fun.

Honestly, neither are top notch for sound. However, between the 2, I would say Va Beach. The band seems to like playing there. Verizon Center has mediocre sound but for an indoor venue, it isn't the worse I have heard. Although, with politics being at a forefront even more than usual, I think the DC show could be awesome. DC crowds vary greatly from night to night for all shows, it seems. PJ has jumped around a bit in DC in recent years due to them not caring for the venues. They seemed to really dislike Nissan Pavillion and I don't expect them to play there again unless scheduling forces them to. The band loves Merriwhether but seems to never be able to schedule a show there when they tour anymore. Although, with politics being at a forefront even more than usual, I think the DC show could be awesome. The 06 DC show was great after what i thought was a somewhat ho-hum (for them) show at Nissan a few years earlier. So after saying all of that, either show should be good, but from a sound perspective, Va Beach.
(Very Sorry for the long winded post). :)

If I had to pick one, I'd go with VA Beach.

Another excellent post. If you are among those who would prefer ed to "shut up and play," I'd stay far, far away from the D.C. show.

    Slightofjeff,

Well said. That is what I was getting at. The DC show should be (and hopefully will be) great, but it has the potential to get a bit sidetracked.

But, as the original poster wanted to know, the Beach amphitheater sounds a bit better, to my musically challenged ears at least.
Really miss the old Merriwhether days.....

Listen to the 2003 Bootleg from Nissan. Eddie Vedder didn't like the venue and prefered Merriweather Post.
