If you don't want to drill the coin, you could solder a jump ring onto the back of the coin.
I googled it and found this also:
Attaching a coin to a chain is not difficult. There are two recommended ways to do that. The first is to drill a hole in the coin with a drill bit of about 1/16 inch (this is 0.0625 inches or 1.5875 Millimeters) for a hole just large enough to handle a decent sized “jump ring”. A jump ring is a simple loop of metal placed though the hole. Pliers are used to close the jump-ring to hold the item on the chain. This link is directly to the page with jump rings at this supplier. You might also search for plating goods and see what you find here. Scroll down a bit to come to jump rings.

The other method to put coins on a chain is to use simple coin frames. These are bands of metal with generally a screw at the top to close the band tightly around the coin. Then, the entire piece is put on the chain using a jump ring.
A final method to attach a loop to a chain is by soldering. This will require not only a dedicated place to do the job but also torches, gas tanks for fuel and oxygen and a buffing machine, to name just part of the equipment needed.
General information of metals is shown here, just for added interest.
