Any opinions either way?

We are moving and thinking about dropping digital cable because of the price.

    i've had directv for 10 years....never had a problem....love it! :D

    cable sucks! :p
  • Directv for around 10 years as well....I hear lots of complaints about dish
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
  • Direct TV is awesome...tons of HD as well. HD Music station with concerts.
Most people with low self-esteem have earned it.
  • dont get verizon fios whatever you do, piece of shit that is.
I will be what i could be

    The internet rocks the house.

My vote is for Direct TV. NFL Sunday Ticket. No other reason needed.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
  • I have that AT&T it's pretty nice.

but I thought it was HD and turns out it wasn't...totally couldn't tell the difference when they turned on the HD. and yeah I have an HD whatever TV...

I have used both. Directv is the best! Dish sucks! The guide is just depressing to use.

do you or are you planning to have hd? my buddy has the directv hd dvr and it sucks....directv dumped tivo when they bought directv but just announced that they signed a new agreememnt with tivo for them to supply hd tivos sometime next year
  • Go w/ direct tv for sure. My fiance is a high end home theater installer...all his clients get it...and we do too. :) LOVE it! We are bummed we decided for the first time not to splurge on the Sunday Ticket tho...having withdrawal already.

Interesting i'll ahve to ask about that. They gave us a free HD DVR to replace our tivo (which we still have it just isn't activated)...so if they bring it back that's cool..tho i love the new HD DVR's and we have a killer 42" plasma and it looks fantastic...so I'm not sure what your talkin' about here....maybe your buddy doesn't have something setup right? A simple setup change can make a huge difference. Just a thought cuz ours looks awesome - and trust me, being that the fiance is a huge home theater guy, he would be bothered by bad hd quality and could easily recognize it.

  • The only thing that pisses me off about DirecTV is that it seems the smallest bit of rain knocks out the signal.

it's the interface and box itself...it's crap compared to tivo....everything has been professionally installed so it isn't that

definitely has to be a matter of taste, because we love the new HD DVR interface. I actually didn't like the tivo one - we were more than happy to switch. To each is own i guess! :)

  • dtv can be sensitive for sure...and yeah it can suck when it rains...but it depends on how well it was installed. Ours rarely goes out...but we also have two tuners on each receiver and that helps A LOT.

  • Yeah this isn't really up for debate.

    DirecTV hands down.

And they will give you free stuff every so often if you ask. Just last week I scored the entire Sunday Ticket package AND Superfan for free.
  • good lord what did u say to get the sunday ticket for free...new customer?

We've got two receivers, and have had the service well over a year...we called a few months ago to add a second receiver...and well being that my man knows how to deal w/ them well (he deals w/ em daily pretty much)...he was able to get us a bunch of free stuff too...but not the sunday ticket...we just can't convince em to hand it over to us :P any tips appreciated on that front! I MISS my REDZONE! Redzone channel is the best!

Well here's the thing... my bill is already around $75/month when I'm not paying for the MLB or NHL package and I've never gotten the NFL package because it's just so damn expensive.

Anyways, they're running a promo deal for new customers where you pay $74.99/month for 4 months that includes the Sunday Ticket along with their premier package which is usually like $105/month or something like that. All I have to do is call them after the 4 months and switch back to my original package and that's that! I'm getting all the movie channels for 4 months and every NFL game for basically the same rate!

Rather than sound greedy, I waited a week before asking about SuperFan and when I played dumb about figuring I should be getting them in HD anyway since I have the HD equipment, I didn't even have to ask before the lady told me that I had been with them a long time and was a great customer so she would add it to my account at no extra charge!

It's worth a shot and you have nothing to lose!

EDIT: Let me clarify by stating that I have been with them for almost 8 years and had to ask to get the promo being offered to new customers because I didn't feel that was right. I did have to speak with their retention department and they have to speak to their supervisor to get it approved.

And here is a thread dedicated to tips on getting it: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=161443&t=887297&highlight=directv
  • gotcha...well we are paying around $150 right now for every channel and 2 receivers....we've gotten the 4 month deal...they said they've given us everything free they could...and that they can't budge on the Sunday Ticket..so we just didn't push it..IT IS damn expensive tho! And so NOT worth picking up in the middle of the season for their minimal mid season discount. MEH so it goes.....i'll live..>i got stat tracker on my fantasy football league so I'll just have to deal w/ that!

My only complaint is the price.

To watch my only team, the Trailblazers on TV you have to have cable. Paul Allen started up a new Sports channel on Comcast and the games are on that channel so everyone could watch them. But now Comcast and DirectTV/Dish are working on a deal so everyone will get the games.

I've thought about switching over, but won't until the games are available.
