Any WWE or wrestling fans out there? I've been a fan since I was a little kid and am not ashamed to say at age 22 that I still am. Didn't order No Mercy tonight, however have heard it's been a great show. Anyway just wondering if there's anyone else out there like me. If so, have you been to any shows? Who's your favorite wrestler? All Time Favorite PPV? etc... Deepest of apologies if this thread has already been made, couldn't find any.

I don't watch anymore but years ago I was getting made fun of for the show being fake. So I said "So what, so are all the shows you watch- The Simpsons, Friends, ER, etc". I never got made fun of again :).

  • I'm 21... been watching for 18 years now. :D 'Cept for maybe a three year span where I only watched it occasionally, which ended about a month and a half ago (it moved to Sky Sports, which I only got recently).

But yeah, I'm obsessed. I'm the kinda guy who'll watch a match, and yeah, enjoy the high spots, like ladders and chairs and whatever, but really, really love when someone scores an armbar submission or something. :p The Benoit/Angle submission matches from a few years back were some of my favourites. I don't give a hot shit if it's fake - after watching a live stream of No Mercy tonight, and seeing Jericho get a tooth knocked out and hardway bleed over his eye, it's real enough to be respected.

Favourite wrestler right now... probably Shelton Benjamin, or John Morrison... or Regal... (or AJ Styles, if we count TNA)

Favourite of all time... Bret Hart... Benoit (I know :o)... Randy Savage... any of the greats, really. Maybe throw in RVD and Jerry Lynn.

Favourite PPV... Maybe Wrestlemania X. Bret/Owen was great, as was the Shawn/Razor ladder match. But I'd probably give the edge to Summerslam 92.

    I'm gonna stop typing now.

Oh, I should mention that I absolutely hated the "Attitude" era. It was about everything but wrestling. Storylines and drama are fine, but if what goes on in the ring isn't the focus, you've lost my attention.

Great pick of Wrestlemania X being your top PPV. That was the first show I ever attended live and has always been my favorite PPV. Anyway I'll throw my picks in here.

Favorite Wrestler (current): Tought to say, I'll go with Jericho, he's on fire right now.

Favorite (All-Time): I'll give my top 5, no order. Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Undertaker, RVD (ECW RVD), Mick Foley.

    PPV: Wrestlemania X

Shows attended: Wrestlemania X, Summerslam 1997, Sunday Night Heat taping in 1999, House Show at MSG in 2001, Summerslam 2002.

Likewise, although after turning it on I usually do a quick 'oh yeah..' and turn it off again.

That's awesome man, I've always had a dream of being a pro wrestler but at 155 lbs. soaking wet I don't stand much of a chance. How's training going? You get any matches booked yet on the independants? keep us updated and good luck.

  • I haven't watched regularly in about two years, but I still read the spoilers online just in case something good develops. The current Jericho/Michaels feud is the best thing going right now. Once Edge returns, that should help WWE tremendously, as he has been one of the best, yet underrated, heels over the last few years.

I'm going to the TNA Bound For Glory PPV here in Chicago next Sunday. Haven't been to a live wrestling event in about ten years. Fifth row seats, so it should be a good time. At least I'll get to see the likes of Mick Foley (as a "special enforcer", too bad he's not wrestling that night), Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. The card features the annual Monster's Ball match, which is TNA's premier hardcore gimmick match, plus something called a Steel Asylum match with their spotfest X Division wrestlers - I would assume it's some sort of fancy-style cage.
  • watched it as a kid of course....then it fell off the map for me

watched it religiously in high school - wcw/nwo got me hooked again

9 years later now i find myself tuning in again every monday....jericho is the man...

i was really getting into Cena, but with that draft they have where they move all the guys around, i havent seen him as much cause i dont watch smackdown

Don't watch it now but I watched it from around 1991-1996 and then 1998-2001.

My favourite wrestlers of all-time are Bret Hart, Marty Jannetty, Mick Foley and Mr Perfect, who, though undoubtedly the most unlikeable heel of all, was probably the best technical wrestler I ever saw.

Greatest wrestling match of all time anyone?

My vote, Mankind vs Undertaker, Hell in a Cell at King of the Ring 1998. Immortalised in the song "I am Mick Foley, You are Undertaker, this is King of the Ring 1998" by the west midlands punk band Fuck Your Haircut :p

"Fuck you Jr, Foley, off that cell, one more time Taker, one more time Taker, one more tiiiiiime"

In fact, it's on here. First song of the night. I recommend that all wrestling fans listen :D

It might also have their tribute song about Chris Benoit, which is in terrible taste but you might like it Rhinocerous :)
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

How could I forget Mr. Perfect?!?! :( I just ordered his DVD the other day... he was incredible.

Also, I forgot to mention THE Brian Kendrick as one of my modern day favourites. He's like a young Shawn Michaels, and was trained by him too.

Greatest wrestling match of all time? It's probably gotta be one of the Flair Steamboat bouts... but my personal pick would be Hart/Perfect at Summerslam 91.

  • Best Match of All-Time for me: Bret Hart vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin Wrestlemania 13, Submission Match

Amazing how good of a story this match told. The double turn, the amazing image of Austin bleeding with the sharpshooter being applied, Shamrock as the Ref. Great, great match. I'll come back with a top 10 sometime tonight.

Is it a sign of how old and bitter I am that it still sticks in my craw to call it the WWE instead of the WWF?

Old and bitter? No. I'm the same. Admittedly, I haven't really watched it since the change but I'd still call it WWF if I did.

Umm...can't really answer anything else really. It's all great to me. I must say however, Wrestlemania XX was a great one for me.

24 has the been the best since IMHO.

Shows: MSG House Show 2005, Raw Taping 2006, Raw Taping 2007, Smackdown! House Show 2007.

Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!

Good stuff man, Wrestlemania XX was a great, great show. I was a huge Benoit fan dating back to his ECW days and seeing him win the title at the Garden was probably my favorite wrestling moment of all time, at that time. The image of him and Eddie embracing and holding the two titles at the end of the biggest show EVER is something that will stick in my mind forever. Unfortunately because of Benoit's horrific actions it's hard to rewatch that main event without getting angry and to be honest feeling kind of sick. Weird how things change :(.

The soap opera that goes with the shows has been absolutely hilarious lately.

Undertaker: I didn't come for an a apology, I come..............................For your SOUL!! I still crack up thinking of that one.

The Ultimate Warrior is up there in my all time fav's. Loved watching the British Bulldogs too.

These days Edge. He's got the gift of the gab and I've seen him in a couple of absolutely bruising affairs on the free to air. I don't get the PPV's just watch the free to air stuff. That new lad Evan Bourne has been awesome too. Him and Ray Mysterio teaming has been insane.
I can't go the library anymore, everyone STINKS!!

Not to turn this into a Benoit thread, or to in any way excuse what he did, but after all the media circus died down, they autopsied his brain, and it was comparable to that of an 85 year old alzheimer's patient, due to all the concussions and head bumps he'd taken. So, yeah, what he did was sick, twisted and utterly wrong... but there's a chance it really was a case of him going legitimately insane.

With that said, I've only recently been able to appreciate his matches for what they were... unbeatable displays of technical ability. He's the only wrestler I'd ever put over Bret in terms of being able to get it done. His matches with Bret, Dean Malenko, Jericho, Kurt, Regal and Eddie are still amazing to watch. It just sucks that for all he gave to the business, he ruined it all, and his name's a black mark rather than a watermark.
