Health professional question - my friend had a hysterectomy

I know there's a few health professionals on here. What do you think? My friend had a hysterectomy last Thursday. She calls me Monday morning saying that after her surgery, her legs were NUMB. This was discovered when they got her out of bed to start walking, after the surgery and she just went down. They told her that her being on her back during the 2 1/2 hours of the surgery could have caused it, and that hopefully it would resolve itself in a couple weeks. She is now in acute rehab doing physical therapy. She told me today that one of her left leg is still numb as of today (Wednesday). She also told me that she'd had a spinal for the surgery. An OR nurse that I know said that they are very careful positioning someone for surgery to keep weight OFF nerves, and she said this didn't sound too good. Another nurse told me that 2 1/2 hours on a spinal didn't sound great either. What does anyone think - is this sort of numbness common after surgery, and is it likely to completely resolve? I'm quite worried. She's worked with me at my aerobic center, so she is (was) active - helping me haul equipment, taking my class. She wasn't someone who just sat around. She takes care of her mother, and her grandson too, so this is a worry for quite a few people.

Lots of people going through all sorts of things there, plus get a copy of the surgical report ASAP. It will tell exactly what happened throughout the procedure.

Hmmm. After my last surgery almost 6 years ago, they put these things on my legs that would compress them about every 1/2 hour---drove me crazy--but was to help circulation until you could get up and walk. A little overkill since I only had my thyroid removed and could easily walk right away. I wonder if your friend had those on...
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

This was a thread I should have decided to skip......

Anyway, how long was she with the doctor who did the surgery?? I'm curious...

Don't worry yourself too much, this stuff is pretty rare. I had some numbness in my left leg now and then for the first couple of weeks, but was able to walk SIX miles one week after surgery.
