ESPN kisses the good teams asses. whoever is the recent champion...in all sports. its a national network for christ sake. its the same shit they did when the Yankees were the greatest team on earth in the 90's. the red sox are so freaking much better than everyone right now, they get a lot of attention.

that said, who gives a shit about ESPN's power rankings? they still have tampa at 2? ha ha! thats just insane right there.

Here are the rankings that matter....

Flannels CURRENT Power Rankings - Top 5

    Red Sox
    Cubs
    Angels
    Mets
    Yankees

Rays at #2 is insane right now, but then so is including the Yanks in the top 5. Mets I can understand cuz they're the hottest team at the moment. But the Yankees, who just got shut down in 2 outta 3 against Toronto and are in 3rd in their division, are not a top 5 team. I'd say they're #5 in the American League alone, although I think they'll eventually overtake the Rays. But then I could still see Minnesota holding both off for the Wild Card.

There really isn't any one team that is "so freaking much better" than either of the Red Sox, White Sox, Angels, Cubs or Rays. Probably make a case for the Phils, Yanks, Mets and Twins to be included in that as well. Almost all of these teams dominate at home and are below average on the road. To me, the scariest team is the Angels b/c they have been just dominating on the road and their home record will improve as it gets later in the season. But hey, that's why they play 162 games. Just ask the Rockies.

yeah, that' what I was gonna say. 20 consecutive shutout innings. Makes me wonder what they're waiting for

They're just being extra cautious and also they have no clue who to send down. Slowey is probably the closest to going.
No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.

I was refering to the RS having won twice in the last 3 years (and a bit of sarcasm with the whole "so freaking much better"). Thats why ESPN kisses their ass. Although, I think they are the best team in baseball right now, but I am biased.

My list was the list of teams that are solid enough to last the long haul.

If you are talking hot teams, Minn has to be included as they won something like 19 of 24 games before being swept by boston.

The high home win percentage thing is odd. I dont think any of these teams are "built for their ballpark" like the Red Sox used to be (double hitting right handers and opposite field slapping lefties), so its hard to explain.
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.

Red Sox definitely dont have the team they did last year, and the Yankees should be further down in that list. They are shitty, but like you said. ESPN kisses asses, they only games they show on TV are Red Sox or Yankee games.

    Go Angels!

The Sox were 53-34 at the break last year and were a 1/2 game better than Detroit and Anaheim for the best record in the American League.

This year with a lot more injuries they are 57-40 at the break and one game behind Anaheim for the best record in the American League.

I don't see how you can argue that the Red Sox aren't as good as they were last year.

The Sox Angels series will definitely be must see tv this weekend.

But even if the Angels take the series, the Sox always beat the Angels come October. ;)

These rankings are dumb because it doesn't include the whole of the Mets 9 game win streak, where they had four shutouts and 5 games in a row of three hits or less against the opposing team. Otherwise they'd easily be in first.

It will be fun to watch the Cubs implode in the second half. Rich Harden? What a pathetic signing...he'll be sitting on his ass most of the second half because he's a pussy!

CC Sabathia all the way baby. Go Crew!
