I did a short course in typing when I was about 16, but I don't really type like you're supposed to. I just use a computer so much now that I naturally got faster. If a properly trained typist was to watch m style and technique they'd probably vomit in disgust. I do use more than two fingers though (I'm sure there's innuendo in there somewhere ;))

    I did grade 9 typewriting :p

    yes, that sounds ancient

but regardless of that, I can type pretty quick without looking at the board

    Me.
    It is really bad. :o
It takes a so long for me to type just a little message like this.
And I had to take typing in high school.
AND my dad worked for IBM and we always had computers and typewriters in the house.

I don't know how to type the right way but I get by. I use more than 2 fingers but not my pinkys.

  • my mother who was a trained secretary tried to teach me how to type the "right" way and I could never get it. but by the time I went to college and used computers everyday, I just started typing fast without thinking about it (or doing it the "right" way).

Whats even worse about this is I took typing in college and got an A.. an A typing with my two fingers when the teacher wasn't looking! I needed the class to finish my associates, lol.

You know it's funny. When typewriters were being made they wanted to make the typing slower so you didn't jam the buttons, that's why there is the weird arrangement. [at least that's what i've read.] It's funny how now I can naturally type 40-60+ on this really weirdly arranged keyboard but it would take me half an hour to type on a normal abc keyboard.

[Yeah i'm bragging a bit. I took a keyboarding class in 7th grade {flying fingers award! :D:D} and after that just practicing made it faster and easier] hehe.

and I'm proof that you can work with computers (computer programmer) and not type very well....I'm a little better than the "hunt and peck" style, but still not very good....on my keyboard at work, the backspace key is the most used because of all the typos I make :o

    That's impressive!

My husband has his own method. He uses all of his fingers, but he doesn't use the "home row" like I do. He's pretty fast, though.

When I'm focused, I can easily type between 75 and 80 words per minute.

    That's what i remember from 9th grade typing :)

    I SUCKED in typing class.

I'll never forget that class, because they sort of covered "job interview" type stuff in it. My female teacher told the girls that we should never ever, under any circumstances, wear pants to an interview because it appears to be threatening to a male interviewer. This was fucking 1995! :D
  • i cant type in the dark....... i should learn to type proper, if i can play guitar i should be able to type, right?

    I'm a terrible typer.

If it wasn't for the "backspace" key, I'd be in serious trouble!
  • I don't even remember having a typing class. :o
  • 9th grade typing was the probably the most beneficial class I ever took.

A co-worker of mine uses a DVORAK keyboard instead of a QWERTY one. I guess it's more efficient for typing and he's insanely fast on it. You can change you user settings on Windows to use that layout (although you'd have to memorize the layout)

i tried that before. cause the layout is supposed to be really easy. but i couldnt get the hang of it and didnt feel like learning the keyboard again. its also supposed to be what people with one hand and stuff use too. the idea of all vowels together makes perfect sense and keeping the most used letters all together in the same area. qwerty is just a retarded design, seriously.
