    today I found out that a girl in my high school class was in a car accident on the NJ Turnpike on 2/18. She was with her 2 daughters, ages 7 and 4. She was 38. She lost control of her car and both she and her 7 year old daughter died. The 4 year old survived without any injuries. So sad.

    I'm making bread for the first time in YEARS! In pastry school we used fresh yeast, and my family used dry yeast at home over 20 years ago. I was using dry yeast because I couldn't find fresh yeast, and it wasn't reacting like I remembered. It was hardly reacting at all, hardly any smell. With both growing up and in pastry school I remembered a bigger reaction. The expiration date on the package is next year, and my liquid wasn't too hot. I hope it works out, but I dumped the first yeast/liquid mixture, and tried again with the same lack of response. I'm using it anyway. I hope it works. Bother!
