    I've barely been here lately because my laptop is making me crazy, for over a week now. :anguished: I have pictures of Penny that I want to post! OTOH I'm getting more work done. I'll just have to try at home tonight.

    Both dogs managed to be really really sick (for different reasons) week before last. It wa$ very $tre$$ful. They are much better now.

    No, I don't.

    Penny is getting to be an old lady. She was a rescue so we're not sure about her age but she's probably 12. She gets very cranky with Scout, who is always trying to play with her. She's had a couple of bouts with bronchitis in the last year but a few weeks ago she developed a really nasty cough. I took her in and she got x-rays and bloodwork done. The vet showed me her x-ray side by side with one from August. Her heart was significantly enlarged after only a few months. He diagnosed her with pulmonary edema and said that she'd probably go on meds but we'd wait for the lab results. Of course Glenn and I were freaking out. After a couple of days, the vet called me with the results and discussed different meds. He wanted to start her on some things right away and then we'd fine tune the dosages. We freaked out some more.

    Within 24 hours of starting her meds, Penny was a new dog! Frisky, playful, doing her happy Penny dance. She plays with Scout and steals his toys. She still gets a little short of breath sometimes, which I guess will be addressed when we adjust her meds. But wow! We stopped freaking out.

    Two days later, Scout is having diarrhea. Ho hum, this is the dog that threw up a nail, so it looks like he ate something weird again and it should run its course. Doesn't happen. He got much worse and refused to eat. Then he was so weak he could barely stand. He lay on the floor shivering. Freak out time again. It was Sunday and I'd originally thought I'd take him in on Monday but we decided we couldn't wait. I called my vet at home and discussed his symptoms. He agreed Scout needed care right away and Glenn took him to a 24 hour clinic. They did tests and x-rays and concluded, guess what, he'd eaten something that made him sick. Nothing toxic, just really messed with him. He was dehydrated so they gave him fluids and a prescription. Glenn brought him home and he just slept for hours. He ate a little that night and was much better the next day, then back to normal in another day. :relieved:

    Both situations seem to me like the kinds of things you expect to come up with your dogs sometimes, so I don't mind the expense. Just not the same week, please! I'm starting to think that Scout has a sensitive tummy and maybe he needs a different diet. And stop eating dirt!

    ^^^^ sick doggies are very stressful! I'm glad Penny is feeling good and Scout's "thing" reminds me of the Sunday Piper barfed like 20 times but never again after she got to the emergency vet and an overnight stay was inconclusive.

    Oh, I am lame to not post in here. A friend told me about 9 puppies that needed to be fostered ASAP (probably GSD/lab mix), left in a box in the desert. So we're fostering 2 of them. Will 1 stay with us? Maybe. They are insanely cute.

    A rare sleeping moment - Lisa the dog loves them, I think she thinks they're her toys.
