This will have nothing to do with your tax return. $600 above and beyond. (though I'm sure the Gov't will make us claim it as income on next year's taxes).

Someone else told me this too. I don't recall claiming it on my taxes when we got the $300 tax rebate some years back. Why would we have to pay taxes on a tax rebate? Just doesn't make sense to me.

But it was only $300 last time. Anything over $600 is subject to taxation, so I fully expect we'll get checks in June and 1099's in January.

how much will you guys have after tipping the tax assistant who gave you your $600?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

What did he make last year? After the expenses to fly Boom's fresh poi and roasted boar in for every show, the European tour was a break even.

  • that rebate isn't completely approved yet. And it keeps dropping too. Originally said it would be 800 bucks, then to 600, I heard Larry King and Suze Orman this weekend saying its down to 300 now. Basically, be grateful if you even get a penny.

I haven't seen the final plan, but I do not think I'll be receiving it. Figures...

haha. the other day i was riding the elevator with a bunch of accountants in my firm and we were discussing it. one asked if anyone knew what the salary cap was to receive it and i said 'if you have to ask, you don't need it'......:p we all had a good laugh....and he said he liked the new 'spin' of that phrase. ;)

i really haven't been following it, so who knows? i think really it's a waste. billions in debt, but let's throw people a meager bone eh? lame.

The people who pay the most taxes should get the biggest rebate IMO...

i don't think there should even BE a rebate.
and, i believe the lame-ass rationale for this rebate is to stimulate the economy. i also believe the thought process here, rightly or wrongly, is that if the wealthiest americans are given a rebate, they will merely stick it in the bank, b/c they already have and spend as they want - thus will do nothing to *stimulate* the economy. whereas people of lower socio-economic status more than likely WILL spend it, on something....whether to pay down debt or to buy some big ticket item, etc...which DOES *stimulate* the economy. not saying what's right or wrong here....just saying the REASON for the rebate has a LOT to do with who gets it and how much.

I understand the reason for the stimulus, but it's pretty lame to just assume that a so-called "wealthy" person is just going to put it in the bank and therefore doesn't deserve one.

And who really thinks that $75K/year means a person is wealthy?

i agree, on all counts. :)
and i already said...i just think the entire idea for the rebate is LAME. you bet i'll take the money happily if they give it out and i qualify.....but absolutely, i think it could be far better spent, period.

Does every taxpayer get this? I know families get more, and you get more per child, but is this refund going to EVERYONE?
