So sad for all those involved.. 4 people died, and 2 lived. Seems like Travis and AM were the lucky ones..

  • Yeah, so scary. I wonder if they got burned really bad. Either way, lucky to be alive.

Fatalities In Travis Barker Jet Crash Identified
    Saturday, Sep 20, 2008 9:23AM

Update - South Carolina officials say four California residents died in the fiery Learjet crash that also critically injured former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM.
The Lexington County coroner said Saturday that pilot Sarah Lemmon of Anaheim Hills and co-pilot James Bland of Carlsbad died. Also killed were passengers Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles.
Authorities say the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane headed for Van Nuys, Calif., went off a runway, through a fence and crashed on a nearby road.

So sad.. I just read in an update that Chris Baker just recently got married and had a baby.. Such a tragedy. Also I read that Travis is burned from the waist down, and DJ AM was badly burned in the face..

    My thoughts are with them.
  • That's horrible....News here says DJ AM and Travis Barker have "extensive" burns. That's like the worst type of injury ever....

    Here's hoping they recover..

Medical question here. Anyone know if all of Travis's tattoos help/hurt/will be ruined because of the burns??

I'm quite sure it doesn't help or hurt when you have a burn.. but ruined.. likely. When you are burned it depends on how deep the burn goes, but a lot of times the skin is burned through many many layers of skin.

When my brother was really sick, he was in a burn unit for 3 weeks, and some of the things I saw there were quite unimaginable. I really really feel for the people that have to be in a burn unit for any incident, especially one that leaves you in critical condition.
  • I would rather have passed away then be burned so badly.....I don't think they were the lucky ones....

Of course Travis has children so people with children feel different about these kind of things....either way it is so sad.

i hope you are referring to the day the music died and not aliyah, that "human being" thought she knew more than the pilot did, and ordered him to take all her luggage.

"Travis Barker's assistant wanted to get home in time for his pregnant wife to give birth.

We've now learned why Barker and his friends decided to get on that doomed Learjet in South Carolina late last night, and the explanation can only be described as a horribly cruel twist of fate.

It all started some time yesterday, when Barker's assistant, Chris Baker, told the guys that his wife was going into labor. Barker told him that he would do everything in his power to get Baker back to the hospital in time.

The quickest way back to Van Nuys was that Learjet. We're told Barker usually won't fly on private jets, but made an exception for what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of Baker's life.

The plane crashed shortly after midnight, killing four people -- including Chris Baker. Baker's wife went into labor early this morning."

What a fucking nightmare. That's SO horrible. That poor family.

Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.
  • A tragic story.

GS, I don't think I could even enter a burn unit. :( :o The recovery from severe burns is an unbearable pain that I can't even imagine. I am not sure I would survive something like that... or that I would want to.

When my brother lost all of his skin (And he lost 99%) it was on the same level as a burn and had to be treated exactly like a burn would be) they had to knock him out because they said he would have gone into shock and died from the extreme pain.

The burn unit was just horrible. Its an imagine that will be forever implanted in my brain. People screaming all day long in pain. I wouldn't wish that on the worst person in the world.

It's important to remember that while the pain is the worst thing ever, people do recover from burns and thats why its important to not give up.

Oh I had no idea your brother went through so much. :( It must have been so hard for your family.

I could not have handled that. :(

If I may ask, how did he lose 99% of his skin if it wasn't via a burn?
  • The latest news broadcast is that DJ AM is burned on 50% of his body with the most severe being around his facial area. Barker is burned from the waist down. No word on the degree of the burns.

Private jets are super convenient and comfortable, but scare the crap out of me. Most people I work with who have had to ride them are terrified as well.

  • If I may ask, how did he lose 99% of his skin if it wasn't via a burn?

He had a condition called Steven Johnsons, which is a reaction to a drug taken. He was taking Bactrum for an infection, and had the allergic reaction which caused all of his skin to come off, as well as his mucus membranes. He is very lucky to be alive. It acts just like a burn, with your skin "sluffing" off. He was taken to a burn unit from Children's Memorial in Philadelphia for 3 weeks.

wow. sounds horrifying. He's okay now? How old was he at the time?

that's a crazy story... I can't believe they were trying to make it home for a birth, makes me so sad.

I"m kind of worried right now, I build planes including learjets for a living and i'm praying right now that we didn't build that plane.

He was 16 at the time. This was back in November. He's 17 now, and completely fine. Just a little slight discoloration on his arms, but that will fade with time. He was SOOO SOOOO lucky. They said the main reason why he made it was because of his age. He just needs to be super careful in the sun, and when its really hot outside because his skin is brand new like baby skin.

Thank god for critical care nurses, and burn unit nurses. They saved my brother's life. I only hope they can do the same for these poor guys too.
  • It is amazing, as some have said earlier, that the 2 famous people survived, and the 4 non-famous people lived. How you can be famous for playing CD's is beyond my understanding, but that's not the point. The freaky part for me is, I saw the clip on MSNBC this morning, and wondered what "famous" people would be on board? A learjet in SC at that hour? I figured it had to be someone famous, whether it be an athlete, musician, or CEO type. I had a very similar feeling when Cory Lidle crashed his plane into a bulding in NYC. I had a terrible feeling about there being someone famous involved, then I heard there was a pitcher from The Yankees involved. i remember hearing that it was Cory Lidle, and as horrible as it was, and as bad as this will sound, being bit relieved that it wasn't Mariano Rivera or Mike Mussina. That makes me a trrible person, I know. But i followed those guys for years.

TMZ.com is now reporting that their source had it wrong, and his wife wasn't in labor. Not that it makes it any better.. but I did want to report that that might not be the case.

I saw this story on the weekend. It is horrible. I read that Shanna Moakler (Travis' ex-wife and mother of his children) is by his bedside.
They released a clip from a police car's ( I think?) camera that showed the crash and they had audio of someone screaming, which is so horrific. It is horrible for those that passed and it seems downright miraculous Travis and AM were spared. I hope they are recovering and I said a prayer for them when I heard about it.

I used to work in a hospital. I remember being taken on a 'tour' of the floors before I started and they showed us the burn unit and yeah, it gave me the creeps too. That is one of my worst nightmares, and another is being in a plane crash, God forbid.
