I researched Lasix a few years ago. I don't mind wearing contacts but it would be really nice not to run into my bathroom door in the morning because I can't see the damn thing. My uncle is an opthamologist who has been doing Lasix forever. He told me a couple things you have to consider:
*What your current prescription is and if it's been stable for several years. If I remember correctly, my prescription (-4.0 right and -3.5 left) was on the borderline of what they could correct.
*Size of your pupils. Mine are naturally gigantic and because of that I would run the risk of having a constant glare from the side
*Any systemic diseases that can affect your eyes i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure. Or if macular degeneration runs in your family
I ended up not getting it because of the risk of a less than perfect outcome. My career literally depends on my sight, so I'm stuck with contacts and glasses.0 -
My sister had it done about a year ago and she says the first thing she noticed (aside from the 20/20 vision) was that the pain in her upper back went away because she wasn't *wincing* any more to focus on things.
I'd love to have it done as I'm blind as a bat but I'm also diabetic and not a candidate. I'm told if I did it my eyes would never heal :(The best use of Life is Love.

I voiced my concerns to him and he asked me, "would you rather have this done by someone who has done 25,000 procedures (him) or by a doc who does 1-2 a week?" I think he had a point. No doubt, my doc is trying to retire earlier. He's in his 30s and already drives Porshes and Mercedes and lives in a McMansion. On the flip side, he works all the time. Saturdays and Sundays. He did great by be and I say more power to him.
A "mill" might = shitty doc, but it also might not.
Personally, I would rather have it done by someone who does 2 per hour, and 15-20 per day, as opposed to someone who does dozens per day. The more a Dr. does, the more chance of a mistake. You also have to consider the "fatigue factor". At least that's how I see it. Glad it worked out for you, though.0 -
Oh God. I know people that have had it done successfully. My eye doctor is a surgeon and he told me I would be a candidate for it but then I got skeptical like he was just saying that to make $ off me! I'm terribly near sighted.
but I am too squeamish. I'm afraid I'd be the one person that something would happen to and that's my eyes, I wouldn't be able to see. but that's just me...."...like a word misplaced, nothing said, what a waste.."

My ears are slightly off (one is a bit higher on my head than the other), so my glasses are often crooked and tend to need tightening about every 4-5 months, otherwise they slide down my nose. Plus, I need to wear special prescription safety glasses at work that are "one size fits all" and of course, I don't fit into their one size - I'm too small. Thus, these safety glasses don't provide proper protection since they don't fit me right, and they're heavy on my nose, which will aid and abet any incoming headache.
So, yeah. I definitely want it done. My grandfather had it done a long time ago and the results were outstanding.0 -

Are they going to fix your ears while they're at it?If I had known then what I know now...

hey thats great! congrats. i have the same problem as you with the huge pupils. did your doctor warn you about the halo's you'll get at night time around lights? like the street lights and stuff will have a huge glow around them. for me they were bigger than normal for about 6 full months, then it went down. not much you can do to avoid it, but be patient and it'll go away.My favorite Pearl Jam song: "Corporate Greed Boat Asshole Behind a Counter in the Oval Office"0 -

I got it back in November of 2001. Easily one of the best decisions I ever made. The procedure took no longer than 15 minutes, and was virtually pain free. I had it done at about 11am on a Sunday morning. By 7pm that night I went to a Rangers game at MSG and for the first time in over 10 years I was able to see the puck and the names on the back of the jerseys clearly. Within three weeks I went from 20/100 to 20/15.
So I recommend Lasik for anyone who is a qualified candidate!

I have terrible vision and astigmatism in both eyes.. I haven't even researched if I would be a good candidate because I just can't get past the idea of having to 'watch' everything that's going on..
My question.. how do you not freak out when something is coming at your eye like that?
I'm a chickenshit.0 -

Did you people know that caffine dries out your eyes? I have been suffering from dry eyes and unable to wear my contacts and I just found this out. I have about 6-8 caffinated sodas a day! I am do addicted I get a splitting headache if I go too long with out it. I never knew that was a side effect!0 -
I've been thinking about having this done in the fall. I have tried contacts but just can't get past them. I've been wearing glasses since 9th grade. I always end up destroying my new pairs of glasses over time. Last time I had my eyes looked at they actually got stronger. So come fall I may go for it. Thanks for posting this thread.0

I guess I knew it was coming so I didn't really have time to freak out during the surgery. Further, I didn't have any drugs and, trust me, I was like "hey, where is my happy pill?" but I never received one. Didn't really need one.
My only moment of slight panic was when everything went black and I thought "OMG, what if I never see again!" but the doctor very calmly counted down from 15 and when he said "one", I could see again.
GraySat:
Although, I'm not a big caffeine drinker (two cups of coffee in the morning), I never heard that caffeine can cause eye dryness so thanks for the info and good luck with the surgery!"you shall be released" ~ EV0 -
I´m 21 years old, and I did it on 6th march!!
I had a very bad eye-sight, and I can tell you it was the best thing I ever did in my whole life!!
I have an almost perfect eye-sight now!!
The whole surgery is really painless, you don´t feel anything at all!!
I recommend it to anyone, who has a bad eye-sight to do it!
It feels so good to wake up in the morning and be able to see everything so well, after years of not being able to see almost anything at all!!"Vocês são do caralho" Eddie Vedder : Lisbon, 04/09/2006 - best day of my life0 -

Funny side story about the day I got my eyes done. I was the first patient that morning, and another older woman walked in, all nervous about the procedure.Since my parents were in the waiting room and were curious about it, the doctors decided to open up the shade to show what was going on while I was in the chair. So apparently my one eyeball was all zoomed in on this 19 inch monitor and the second they started opening up my coronoa(sp) the woman totally freaked out and literally ran out of the office crying down the stairs.
