So it went like this: there were 9 people in the group interview and we all sat in a circle and introduced ourselves, and said something about ourselves. Then we heard a bit about gymboree, and then we had to go over to an setup and heard the leader talk about it in the voice that we'd use during a class. She mentioned the reason for the activity, what it was, and how to use the course. Then we had to each take turns pretending we were in front of the class, talking to the class, in front of everyone. Then when everyone went, we went back into a circle and the two women interviewing us stood on the other side of the building and we had to sing our song to the group and it had to be loud enough that they heard us. So i belted out my best version of "Where is Thumbkin" and then we had to learn a gymboree song and then we had to go one by one into a room with just the two interviewers and sing to them, and then discuss our resumes. So I went first into the room because I wanted to look eager. So I went in there and rocked the song, and then told them about my hopes and such. They were super nice and said they'd be calling people back for second interviews soon! So I thought I did really well. I couldn't have done better personally.. Some girls forgot the words to the songs they picked out, and one girl had the most cleavage hanging out that I had ever seen. (Not cute for gymboree!!)

I have no idea how many people they are hiring, but I hope I get a call back!

Its gonna be so awkward when my boss and I take her child to class on thursday. They said to me when I went in for the 2 on 1 part: "Oh! you work for So and so!! And you're in Allison's class!, You're leaving because they are moving? Oh they are moving?"

20 bucks says someone says to my boss on Thursday, "Oh you're moving!?" Then I'm dead!

My boss has her house listed, but not with an agent. When I began to look for a job they told me they were moving away to the suburbs, every day its a different story like, we're moving, we're not moving, we're moving.. I have no freaking idea what is really going to happen but I need some stability. The summer will come and go quickly, and then I am in school and I can't be worried about started graduate school and finding a new job at the same time. Its too much pressure. I told my boss that if something great came along, I would have to interview, but she keeps saying maybe they won't move at all. I think I am going to tell her tomorrow out of respect that I had an interview with Gymboree. I don't want her to hear second hand that I was in there. That would seem a little dishonest of me. I know i have the right to interview any time I want, but when you work one on one with a family, it all becomes so hazy. I feel like I should be honest with her. But it still makes me nervous :(

update: so I told my boss and she was very supportive about the whole thing and told me we'd work it out whatever happens.

So I got a message thus morning from the owner that told me they loved me and wanted to hire me, but that they needed someone to start sooner then I could. So I told my boss and she said to call them back and tell them that I could start in 2 weeks so I called and the owner told me she would love to hire me but they need someone to start on Friday! (yeah in 2 days!) I wish someone would have told me that before I interviewed. Most places respect that you have to give notice. So the owner said she is keeping my resume for the next time they need someone because I would have been perfect.

So it sucks but I didnt get rejected because I wasnt a fit for gymboree on just not available on a whim.

    Such is life!

Oh! That's like bittersweet, it's awesome that you basically got the job but not cool they wouldn't allow you to give notice.

Well I hope it works out when they have the next opening and I'm glad your boss was supportive also.

I have a contract saying that I have to give 30 days notice. In turn, they also have to give me 30 days notice, or 30 days paid if they don't need me anymore. My boss did say that she would try to make 2 weeks work if Gymboree could work it out, but they needed someone in 2 days, and thats just not reasonable. Even if I didn't have a contract, I couldn't screw my boss like that. Since I'm their nanny they depend on me every day. I couldn't just not show up. Even though she has been weird to me at times, they still pay me well, wrote me an excellent reference letter for school, and their son spends every day with me. I couldn't just walk out of their lives and live with myself. It would surely bring bad karma! Plus, I think it would look bad to Gymboree since they know my boss, if I screwed her to work there. That doesn't show them a good worth ethic. There will be other chances. I just tell myself whats meant to be will be.
