I know you all have wonderful heads on your shoulders and would never drink and drive (YOU BETTER NOT!) but not everyone out there always follows that rule, so if you are going out tonight to get your party on, please, be safe! Watch out for yourselves, and for others and have a good time :)

    We acutally had our Cinco De Mayo on Tres De Mayo... celebrated with a big block party. I don't have the energy to go out tonight....

    Thanks mom! ;) Actually we're having a siete de Mayo as certain people couldn't be here to celebrate! My whole office (minus the Israelis as I just found out it is Independence Day so Happy Independence Day to my Israeli friends!) are heading out this Wednesday to get tanked! As to driving, we're in Manhattan so as long as the cabbies and subway operators are sober all will be well!

    FYI: Contrary to popular belief, Cindo de Mayo IS NOT Mexican Independence Day. It's a celebration of their defeat against the French.


    P.S. It's not really "celebrated" in Mexico like it is here.

    No, we weren't defeated... we beat their asses :P

    And indeed, here it's not an official holiday... it's celebrated, but not as much as September 15th-16th (our real independence celebration days)

    In 1862 President Juarez noticed the country struggling so he told the world Mexico would not pay its debts to foriegn countries for two years.

    spain, england, and france came to collect. they settle debts with spain and england but france had other motives.

    President Jarez sent troops to Puebla mexico to confront the French troops. The Mexican troops were out numbered, not trained as well (the french army was considered the powerhouse of the world), and not equipped as well but turned the army away.

    Now this of course pissed france off adn they sent even more troops back and defeated teh mexicans until an uprising in 1867 to take the country back.

    Now that I think about it...I've never actually "celebrated" Cinco de Mayo. Living in So Cal it's a big deal around here (being as we're so close to Mexico).

    it's all related to a shippment of mayonaise that sank on it's way to mexico once the shipp didn't arrive at the destined port the locals said "sinko de mayo"...:eek:...i know i will keep my day job ..
