Hold on to the thread
The currents will shift
I'm curious what you mean by "eating right." Can you give me an example of your daily menu? Maybe I can help. I lost 30 lbs. last year and have kept it off for 12 months now.
I second that. If you need any help feel free to ask.
and can I just say, eating right sucks!
I would kill for a big giant pizza with chicken and onions and peppers and gooey cheese and all kinds of stuff I don't eat.
But as I always tell myself "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels".
I am proud though, I have now reached 50lbs lighter then my heaviest weight, and I have kept it off for over a year now. I go to the gym every day, and I eat well. I haven't had (knock on wood) a cold in almost a year. I'm full of energy, happiness, and life..
But I'm still going so, here's to a healthy july!
Not really the same as the shot, but I take a B-50 vitamin from costco. It's got B-12, and well, i guess 49 other B vitamins
We'll see how it goes. I'll have to weigh myself at the gym tomorrow. I'm going tonight but it is my apartment gym and it does not have a scale.

Ok here it goes. I run first thing in the morning and then drink a protein shake. I usually have some fruit a couple of hours later to hold me over till lunch. Lunch is usually grilled chicken. I eat another snack before going to the gym after work. For dinner I have a salad and usually grilled chicken or grilled fish. I also drink a ton of water.
I have lost about 60 lbs. According to my doctor I am doing everything right. She says that my body has just adjusted to the new lifestyle and it's harder now. It's been 9 or 10 months since I have lost any so I guess I'm getting frustrated. Any suggestions are much appreciated
I found that the key for me is to change my mindset. I know, it sounds cliche and it took forever but I realized I had a very unhealthy attitude towards food. I also have a very addicitve personality.
I now see food as a source of energy. Not to fufill my tastebuds. But don't get me wrong, I do eat things like ice cream, pizza, burgers. But in moderation. And I also tend to work out more when I do eat something that isn't as nutritious as I'd like it to be.
Balance! Keeping track of what you eat is important too. Holding yourself accountable as well. I've also found that eating foods that aren't processed is soo much better. That way you know what goes into it and you can control what you eat. I do, however eat a lot of Clif Bars. Typically 2 a day.
I try and get as much nutrition into every meal. I'm not afraid of fat either. But concentrate on good fats. Nuts, avacado, olive oil. I eat veggies that are extra powerful - broccoli, spinach, greens. Whole wheats/grains. Whey protein smoothies with fresh fruits and yogurt in the mornings. I eat my biggest meal at lunch and just a light dinner.
It took a long while to adjust. And after a bit I found that I didn't care about food like I used to. But again, I did have ice cream last night. But I don't feel guilty about it. It's OK!
I also pack in excercise. (I'm a girl btw). 4 miles/day 3 days a week running and 4 days a week (overlapping) I work out on my Faux-Flex for muscle. I have the equipement in my basement so I don't have to bother with the gym. And I found that it's a great way for me to just spend an hour and a half without a worry in the world. And it gets rid of any agression I have. I actually look forward to it now. But there are days I have to make myself do it still.
But every day when I see muscle in places I hadn't before, I get excited. It's not always easy or fun, but I don't hate it like I used to. And it's bizarre to think how far I've come. But I still have about 20 lbs I'd like to lose.
And I don't weigh myself either. Maybe once a month, sometimes not even. The proof is in my clothes. If I weigh myself I get depressed. Even if I know I'm losing inches! Sometimes the mind is a powerful thing!

PJGARDEN, I can understand how you must feel frustrated, because you've hit a plateau. Do you ever count your calories? I should be consuming 2000 calories a day, so anything under that will be a weight loss for me. Anything over 2000, and I'll gain weight. It can be tedious, counting calories, but it helps me and that's how I lost my weight.
I think instead of your protein shake, you should make an egg-white omelette. Throw one whole egg in there to add a little flavor. I have one every morning and I change the ingredients, so they don't become boring. Mushrooms, onions & peppers. Or steak & onions. Or broccoli & cheese.
An hour after my omelette, I eat a bowl of high-fiber, low-calorie cereal with 1% milk.
For lunch, I usually have a salad with some form of protein on top (ground lamb, black beans, prawns, fish). I'm not a big salad person, so that's probably my hardest meal.
And for dinner we have brown mushroom rice, pan-roasted vegetables and steak or fish or chicken.
It seriously takes me about 3000 calories a day to keep me above the minimal weight I want to be at of 155... I turn 30 in 3 months.
oooh, I'm in! I'm back to pre-baby weight, but still have some work to do to be in the best possible shape.
I'm obsessed right now with making us all eat a much healthier diet, and weight loss will be a natural result of that. I was doing okay with the diet, but focusing too much on cutting calories and not enough on eating the right calories.
Congrats on reaching the pre-baby weight, thats awesome! I think out of all the women I know whom had babies, and in my line of work, I know a lot, only 2 of them went back to their pre-baby weight or less.
There is this woman in my muscle max class on wednesday mornings and god bless her, she is like 9 months pregnant and she comes every single week with a letter from her doctor stating she can still do the work out and how to modify it to make it safe. She has the smallest arms and legs, and just this big belly. You know the minute she has this baby, she is gonna go right back to being in kick ass shape. I envy her, if only I could be in her shape, and I'm not pregnant
I don't look at my routine as dieting, and that seems to be the key for me. If I feel like I am missing out, I fail. So I did a lot of research on what is healthy, and compared it to what I like. Now I discovered a lot of fruits and veggies that I actually like, but never bothered with before. I also now know I like yogurt, egg whites, soy based veggie products, etc. If everyone around me is eating birthday cake, or a cookie or something and I totally feel left out, I have a bite or two, enjoy it, and thats it. A bite doesn't hurt anyone. But it took me a very long time to be able to control myself to not say "what the hell" and eat the entire thing.
I pretty much changed my eating habits to do it. I drink only water (with the occasional Rum and Diet Coke!), count my calories - for my size I try to stay around 1200 - 1500 a day. I count my fat grams - I try to not go over 50 fat grams a day and 200 carbs. I try to always leave food on my plate and reduce my portions. I really didn't stop eating anything I liked, I just cut down or chose fat free options. It really wasn't that hard to do at all. I ate Lean Cuisine (they have SO many to chose from and they actually are not bad), Kashi, and Smart Ones meals at lunch, Kashi granola bars and fruit for breakfast and pretty much whatever I wanted for dinner.
I used this site to help me - it gives you a plan for your size and your goals and it really helps you see how much crap you eat that you may think is healthy but isn't. It is a free site and has SO much useful info. It gives you meal suggestions plus it has a recipe section. It is kind of like weight watchers but free and online. It helps you learn to eat the right things and balance your portions. My friend who did this the same time as me, lost 25 in 3 months and is still losing weight (she had much more to lose, but either way it was very successful for both of us).

Good luck all!
Yeah, I didn't want to be one of those women who just gives up after having a baby. It certainly took me a long time to get back here, and I had a lot of false starts. But, now I'm here and not going back. And my goal is to be like the woman in your class next time around. I had some pregnancy-induced hypertension (which I partly blame on my super-stressful job at the time) and wound up on bed rest for the last three months of pregnancy. In that time, my weight gain more than doubled! I want to be in absolutely perfect shape next time I get knocked up, and hopefully I will be able to avoid the high blood pressure and the bed rest, and also keep exercising until the end! Then it'll be a lot easier to snap back into shape afterwards.
We're also working hard on finding veggies that we like. I tend to get in ruts and live on apples and broccoli, because I happen to like them more than most other produce. But there's so much more out there, and I'm totally bent on discovering it. And I want to set good examples for my daughter, who thankfully is a fabulous eater. I want her to continue with that!
