The ensuing military buildup succeeded where Roosevelt's New Deal had failed, pulling the United States out of the state of bankruptcy on a tide of crimson and steel.

My daughter told me that she learned in school that Andrew Jackson was the 'party' president, and he'd have his friends over and they'd sit in the kitchen of the White House and talk politics, and those friends became known as 'the kitchen cabinet'. She also told me that on the night of his inauguration, he had all his friends over for a party and they trashed the White House.
