My car landed in a ditch today...

after it started spinning on the highway.

I've driven to and from work on the highway in snowy conditions for eight years and this is the first time I have felt completely like I was a circling ice-skater.

My car does not drive at the moment, but I'm okay. The tow-truck had to come and tow me to the repair shop.

well at least you're ok....i hate driving in snow/ice
  • You guys are getting snow over there? NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

For real, this will be my first winter in the Northeast and I am pretty worried about ending up in a ditch. In TN, we dont get much practice driving in snow. And usually when it snows you just dont go anywhere.....

Sorry about your wreck. That really sucks.

You could probably do with some alcohol right now :)

I remember when we skidded last year... that was soooooooooooo NOT fun. First time in my life I KNEW I was gonna die. When my neighbour collected us and we got back to the house I thought I was ok, the wife looked at me and her face dropped. I went to the toilet and I was grey. Don't underestimate the shock.

Thanks Helen. I have insurance so it won't be as painful as it might have been to get it fixed.

Yeah. I sat there in shock for a few minutes because that road back and forth to work can be very dangerous sometimes and I've thought I might be killed by a big truck some nights. I sat there and thought, "Well, this is no where near as bad as I've always feared it'd be."

It was morning for one thing, and no one hit me, and I hit no one. My car just got messed up when it drove into the frozen plants and my right wheel caught some debris from a previous accident on the spot...

I also called my mom because I didn't know what to do at first.

:o awww... one of the first things I did was call my boss telling him I wouldn't be in that day :D

Yeh, we stood in at that corner waiting for the neighbour to come and that was horrible... even though we were stood in! I was waiting for a lorry (truck) to do what we did and just take us out cos he wasn't going that fast. But yeh, I was just relieved to get home :)

Reminds me of my spin out a couple yrs ago. I tried avoiding a car that slid into my lane and I ended up going into the ditch. It's a very scary feeling when you have no control and your car goes spinning.

    Glad your ok.

Right. That's what is awful about being near others on a slippery day.

I had to put my brakes on in the first place because of someone going far too slow ahead of me and I didn't want to hit their car...and then I was no longer in charge of my own vehicle...

I'm never worried about my driving. It's the people around me that I worry about.

Yes. Some nights it's like a snow caravan...people driving in a line and the most tense moments are those when the new people try to merge...I'm painfully aware that if anyone in the line of cars loses their head we're ALL toast!!!

People will never learn you have to slow down when its snowing.

I'll never forget that feeling after I went in the ditch. The couple mins of just sitting there and thinking what just happened. Scary stuff.

thats terrible, but as long as youre not hurt, thats all that really matters :] glad you're doing ok
  • I ditched my car a few years ago. I hit black ice did a 180 and went into the ditch sideways. I didn't have a cell phone, it was 10:30 at night in the middle of no where, luckily there was a nearby house with lights on. My car was totalled. It was not a fun experience.

Its good to hear you are all right, I was lucky I wasn't hurt, it seems like you didn't get hurt and thats all that matters.
