They did already know about the lump when I went in. But the lump is close to the outside of my breast and I have small breasts, so I have a feeling it wouldn't have made it in the picture when they were squishing them in there. I don't know though bc they did do a sonogram too.
Ultrasound is generally a great follow-up tool to the mammogram, when there is an area they need to get a better look at.
I am more concerned that they dismissed it without wanting to follow up after your next cycle (I know I am repeating myself, sorry). That is the standard of care with any lump (breast or under the arm). I would call your GYN and ask them to set you up for a follow-up mammogram and U/S in about 40 days. I am assuming that it isn't done at their office, so it shouldn't be any skin off their backs.
Get a little demanding if you have to. Lord knows, I have gotten really good at that.
I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.
I actually heard the opposite...? smaller boobs = less to squash in the machine.... i also heard from a friend who had one done recently that its like putting your boob by the edge of the fridge door then having said door slammed real hard onto it.....ah the joys of being female
That's what it seemed like to me too except a refrigerator door has some cushion to it and this didn't.
that looks cool and sounds better - wonder if they have it here.
For Sian and others wondering about them hurting - really depends on the person - my mom had been moaning about how much the mammo (squishogram as she calls it) hurt to get done for a few yrs, so when I had to go at 29 (my mom had BC at 34) I was expecting the worst - when I got there, I was more fascinated watching the equipment and what it was doing to me, I felt a wee bit of pain (not even, just discomfort, but no worse than some, uhm, less than gentle play ), and then it was over.
Please do not let the thought of a few mins of squishing deter you from going and getting them checked. They're wonderful - try to do everything you can to hang on to them for as long as you can.
Creating walls to call your own
So no one catches you?
i am glad you went justam!
i'm a bit surprised tho that this was your first. my gynocologist said that EVERY woman should go for their 'baseline' mammogram by age 35. meaning, you get your first mammogram so they have pictures of your healthy breasts to compare future mammograms to. i've had 2 thus far, and really...i am overdue for my third. since i have my one sister as a survivor of breast cancer, i should get one every year since it ups my risk. otherwise, i'd not need to do annual mammograms until 40...but hell, that happens this year in any case.
Well, all I can say is that sometimes mothers are so busy taking care of everyone else that they forget to take care of themselves. And that has been the case with me. I've made a conscious effort to put myself on the list of people that need to go to the doctor this year. *shrugs*
