What kind of books do you like to read? If you're looking for something relevant to our own time, I highly recommend anything by Douglas Coupland, who is, in my opinion, one of the literary geniuses of the present. "Eleanor Rigby" or "Shampoo Planet" are both excellent places to start with him, as they embody Coupland's philosophy, but "Generation X", his first novel, is the most iconic and well-recognized by far. Coupland is a master satirist, yet handles his mocking with tact and often applauds the very people he targets. He writes most often about the mundane happenings of everyday life, but manages to elevate them with his elegant yet needle-sharp style. Coupland's books are always quick reads, and for the most part light, but deal with the world in a frankly humourous, revealing way that really makes the reader question things and reevaluate our modern-day society.

  • Thanks!! I guess it would have helped if I would put down some of the authors I have read. Kerouac, Bukowski, Hemmingway, Palanhiuk and Vonnegut, Baldwin just to name a few. I guess I am looking for something new.

Can't go wrong with "Watership Down" :D:p

I was going to recommend Douglas Coupland, too. "The Gum Thief" was one of my favorite books last year.

If you like non-fiction, Rick Atkinson's books about the U.S. in WWII are amazing. "An Army at Dawn" and "Day of Battle."

And (I've posted this before) "Duma Key" is tons of fun and scary as shit.
