As a diehard UK fan, it killed me to see him go to UL that dreadful day! I was a really huge Pitino fan back in the day and by him going to the Ville after failing in Boston seemed like betrayal to many UK fans, myself included.
Watching him give the eulogy at Mr. Wildcats service last night, almost brought me to tears and it really put things into perspective for me and almost ALL diehard UK fans.
Tho we may never like UL, and will always root against them, I think it's safe to say that the feelings against Rick Pitino have changed, and the hatched has been buried by his speech.
Rick Pitino is a class act and I tip my hat to him and say Thank You for such a wonderful speech last night in Rupp Arena.

Same here. I will always respect Pitino, and it kills me that some UK fans would boo or disrespect him. I remember going to Rupp Arena as a kid and seeing Pitino on the sidelines, and for me it was like seeing the president.
Thanks for an awesome stay at UK, Rick, and good luck at Louisville (except when you play the Cats, that is...)

He said some nice things, but he's a snake oil saleslman to the nth degree. I long ago stopped believing anything he says.

I think most of you know I'm a diehard Ville fan. By my very best friend is the complete opposite, he bleeds blue. We are also both big fans of Maker's Mark Bourbon. In 2002 they released a Mr. Wildcat Bottle in honor of Mr. Bill, I collect the bottles (Even the UK editions), so this Mr Wildcat bottle has been on display in my house unopened for several years along with 50+ other unopened bottles. My UK friend was at my house the night we heard about Mr. Bill passing away, and we got that bottle off the shelf, opened it, and toasted to the life of Mr Bill. The bottle is now recapped and sitting back on the shelf (minus 2 shots), and we agreed that we won't touch that bottle again, until UK wins a National Championship....and that night we'll polish off the whole thing. It kinda brought a tear to my eye when Pitino was talking about "being Irish" and celebrating his life, and his love for bourbon.

I'm not in any way trying to promote E-bay, but I just wanted to share with you what the bottle looks like if you hadn't seen it:

Apparently Tubby Smith had some sort of plane trouble and couldn't make it to the memorial service, reports said he was sick over not being able to make it.
