Like a gated community for hotties, BeautifulPeople.net is an elite Canadian club with "a strict ban on ugliness." Officially launching Tuesday, the controversial site -- versions of which have been introduced successfully in 15 other countries since 2002 -- is only open to men and women who are easy on the eyes, with members rating the photos of new applicants to determine their eligibility.

Anyone hear about this before? I think it's interesting. I also checked the site and think it has quite a few ugly people on it.

I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. well sorta.

    We have that site in Denmark. I think that concept is so wrong. I mean how can you measure beauty and decide if someone is pretty enough to be let in? I think it's discriminating.

    ...but it seems to be popular.

    1. Do the founders of this website think they're helping the horrible problem in our society, this obsession with beauty?

    2. I looked through the website and haven't seen so many white people since watching Jesus Camp. Not only that, the "ethnic" people that I could find on the site seem like they're required to "look white." This site is clearly racist, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned in any of the media I've read about it.

    Also, I thought I'd point out...some friends of mine have been to a couple parties at the Playboy Mansion (they have several 'celeb' friends)...and I wasn't surprised to learn they had to submit pictures (to make sure they're "pretty" enough) before they received their official invitations.

    I confess that I didn't read the whole article but 'TheCure's comment made me realise how stuck up I was being to presume all these people are completely shallow. After all, I spend all my time on the AET. :p
