I see a lot of reading/book threads on here. I've never liked to read, any book I've ever read was forced upon me because of school or work. I won't even read a newspaper/magazine for enjoyment. Am I alone on this?

And yes I know I misspelled despise in the thread title.

i find that peculiar, my fiance is the same way as you... i read constantly, books, newspapers, magazines, you name it; i have tons of books- at least 200-that i've already read sitting in my garage, i dont know what to do with them!! im 30, and i've loved reading since as long as i can remember...to each his own, i guess!

Life would royally suck if there was nothing to read. I adore reading. It's my favorite thing to do in the world. I guess to each his own, eh?

I love to read. But I don't like to read anything that's assigned work or something like that. It has to be my choice :) I used to read more when I was younger. I read the Judy Blume books! And I'm a news fan, I read several papers every day :)

I'm exactly the same way. I read the local paper just about every morning, and probably stop by B&N twice a week for magazines.

Every time I start reading a book that I can't finish within a desirable time, I'm pretty much done with it. I get sidetrack for something else.

I hated reading as a kid and remember mum always saying 'you should read - its not only good for knowledge but also your vocab'. Maybe it was a school thing Im not sure but I hated it.

Totally opposite now. I love it and although half my reading is study (which I enjoy) there is nothing better than finishing studying and knowing you've got three months off to read whatever the feck you like.

Cant go the day without at least 15 mins on the local paper either

yeah I hate reading too. The most reading I do is this forum.
I have a short attention span, and just cant seem to get into anything. I have read a couple of good books, but they are just too slow to get things moving and I lose interest.
I wish I liked it though - I hear good things

I LOVED that feeling when I finished studying!

Unfortunately, I still have that feeling of "I could be doing something more important" when I read now. I can't read a book for a few hours anymore like I used to love -- maximum I can read is 1/2 hour to an hour before the guilts start to creep in. I wonder if that guilty feeling will ever leave? Dad says he's the same and that guilty "should be working" feeling started 45+ years ago when he started studying accounting and it has never left. :o

as for me...if I could drag my ass away from the computer on occasion, I would probably read as much as I did when I was younger...
computers have made newspapers and magazines obsolete. my only use for them is for when I'm outside smoking, travelling, or on the can....if I had a laptop, I'd be online there too.

Well get back and study then :D

Yeah I know what you mean but even reading a fiction book is beneficial so dont feel too guilty. I was listening to two blokes in a pub last night and my first thought was 'wonder if these fellas have ever read a book' Every thing was yous, mondee, tuesdee, wiff him.

No time for study. Flat out running the business full time and doing the comic for 4+ hours each night! The publisher is splitting the 8 comics into 2 x 104 page trade paperbacks and we want the first book to be done by February. Fucking BUSY!

Leigh draws all day and all night and has now started listening to audio books during the day. Loves them! He just downloaded one for me to listen to at night times. He's a good boy!

I HATE when people say Mondee, Tuesdee....

Audio books are great! Leigh's just listened to Dune, The Road, Lovely Bones, The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Golden Compass books (can't remember their proper name). He just downloaded me the Twilight series - 4 books about vampires.

I read a lot online, like news articles, online journals etc, but as far as books go im really not interested. Story books bore me completely, particularly fiction or adventure type books.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman - great books.

I like to read ... would really miss it if I couldn't ... need them to stop giving free newspapers away every day as I've got into the habit of reading them instead of books.

I definitely think it is a habit thing ... it was my favourite thing to do since being very young. Thanks Roald Dahl :D ... my sister was someone who only read what she was given to read in school. A few years ago she decided she wanted to start reading books and she says it took her a while (couple of years) to really get into it and enjoy it ... but now she always has a book she is in the process of reading.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

yeah, i'm not a fan. you have to think, and focus, and concentrate, and use your imagination. much better to watch tv. all you have to do is occasionally wipe the drool as your brain shuts down.
