Long Island Sound Auto Ferries

anyone use these before ?

Im driving up to Bostons PJ shows ( Mansfield ) and am contemplating this-
takes an hour and twenty but knocks off alot of the drive. Only 100 miles to downtown Boston from the New London side, sounds pretty good.

    You gotta drive all the way out to orient though...and that is waaaay out there.
    From Rockaway at least 1 1/2 hour to just get to ferry
    Plus its expensive too, but maybe not as expensive as gas.

    Good option if you're out farther east.

    i'm taking the one from port jeff on friday lands in bridgeport and then driving the rest of the way up to hartford it makes sense for me since i live 10minutes from port jeff ...

    hey i get on that ocean parkway,

    out to robert moses- then hop on 27 to any of the northbound crossroads,...

    i can do it in 45 !

    ;)



    port jeffis doable also,....( my sis lives near patchogue i could always stay there )
    think im gonna go for it.

    i did it once, the last time i had to get up there......i will never drive the entire distance to boston ever again. the way to go, for sure

    routine was the theme..

    there aint gonna be any middle any more

    I used the orient ferry for Boston 2004, and the Port Jeff for hartford in 2006. Way better than driving all the way. It may not save a ton of time, but it's much more relaxing. And the ride to the Orient Ferry is pretty scenic. just leave some extra time, as there's a long stretch of one lane roads. And don't dare speed. They take that personally out there. As a bonus, you can hit any number of farmstands for the freshest fruits and vegetables around. The best is Harbes in Mattituck. best corn on the cob in teh world. You can even get it roasted there, along with some kickass fresh squeezed lemonade

    A LONG LONG TIME AGO

    bridgeport to port jeff I think

    and it was a piece of cake, very easy

    I would say so. I'm not a smoker, so i can't say for sure. But I would advise against it.
