I just don't understand the hate for Brodeur. I mean I get the whole Rangers/Devils thing, but to outright say MArty sucks...it was the system...blah blah blah. He's one of the best if not the best to ever play. His size and quickness are a very rare combination. With that being said I hope he lets in 8 golas tonight and gets pulled midway through the second period.

well, it was the system that made him into what he was. put him on the rangers for all those seasons and he would only have one ring too. three cups, not one conn smythe award (even in a postseason where he set a shutout record with eight). goes to show he was NOT the best player on those devils championship teams. and that's because all he had to do was stop 15 shots a game. a workload any average goaltender in the league could handle.

I guess on this point we will just agree to disagree. I grew up in Utica and had the pleasure of watching him play for about a half season so when he got called up to stay I took an interest in him. Watched a lot of Brodeur just as a golatending fan (that's the position I played) and in my generation there's no one better IMO.

Again with that being said I hope he gets pulled tonight!

the ironey here, is that NY plays a block the shot system, thus reducing the save attemepts. :fp:

i don't know when everyone came to the conclusion that shot blocking began in the beginning of this season. even with all the shot blocking the rangers do, lundqvist still faced 300 more shots than brodeur (with only playing three more games).

the devils turned hockey into soccer with their trap system. it worked and they won, but there is no denying a goalie of say......................... bryzgalov's capability would have been a stud on those teams.

I couldn't disagree more. I look past the number of shots...save percentage...GAA and all of the stat stuff. I look purely at the player. Brodeur did and does things that are ridiculous. He basically changed the way a goalie is allowed to play a puck anymore. He brought the tall goalie back in vogue in the NHL in the early 90's.

Take the other side of the stats debate. Look at Grant Fuhr's days in Edmonton. Routinely faced 40-50 shots, had not the best of save percentages and it wasn't uncommon for him to let 4,5,6 goals in a game. Does that make him a bad netminder? Remember some of the ridiculous saves he had? Marty has those as well. The guy over his career has been a wall.

That being said I still hope he gets pulled tonight.

i never said he sucked all these years. but there is no denying his stats are HEAVILY inflated due to the system the devils played for the first 10-12 years of his career. compare his shots against to any other goalie of his era and i can guarantee he is on the bottom of that list. but that is a debate for another time.

    tonights game...

rangers have been real bad in game 2's. they must score first and BEFORE the third period. i like to breathe a little bit before the 5 minute mark in regulation.

i get it and i am with you to a certain degree. i defend a guy like mike richter to death because his career numbers are VERY ordinary, but if you watched the guy play night in night out and see what he did game after game, his numbers simply do not do the guy any justice at all. so i am with you when you have to look past stats to a certain degree. but shots on goal are shots on goal. that is a crucial stat to look at and its common theory... the more shots a goalie faces, the more goals he is going to let in (fuhr).

not sure i am with you regarding bringing tall goalies back in style when you had already had big guys like roy, belfour, cujo, hextall, etc around.

stats are one thing ... but the dude has been stellar for a loooong time now ... 4 vezinas ... probably the best stick handling goalie of all time ... and his mental toughness is as good as it gets ... yeah ... jersey played the trap but so did tampa this year ... the goalie is the focus of any defensive system ... brodeur is arguably one of the best goalies of all time ... lundqvist might be talked about in the same breath at some point in the future but i am pretty sure if you asked him - he'd hold marty up there with any of the greats ...

I love watching Henry in net. He does so many things wrong but it works for him. I'm not sure I have EVER seen a goalie quicker with his up downs than him. His inner leg strength is phenonenal. Hockey fans out there should take a moment and just concentrate on watching him when the puck is in the Ranger's zone.

    just got terrible news

an old friend of mine who moved to Monticello is coming to the game tonight

whats the problem u ask.....his nickname is "THE MUSH" :( :(

with a name like that, perhaps he should sit this game out.

WHAT CAN I SAY?? YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED IN MSG?

i wanted to when he left me the FB message ...
i was gonna say the game starts at 1030pm.....for the west coast people..see if he fell for it

I know, I'm just breaking balls. You could have said the ticket was claimed if you really thought he would have a negative effect. Enjoy the game.
