Has anyone had to replace their central air unit lately?

What was the cost, your square footage, "ton", etc?
Mine need a freon refil, but I may just replace the thing since its so old anyway.
Thanks!
(And by the way, air conditioning is the best human invention.)

I wish we had central a/c. That is one thing on the looooong list of stuff we need to do to this house if we want some other sucker to come along and buy it when we're done with it.
I'm trying to forget it but I'm thinking I paid about $2500 for my 3 (?) ton unit to cool my 1900 sq. ft house. It's a bitch here - mine runs a lot from June to September. The price might not be accurate - I just remmber it was a lot and I wasn't expecting it.
