even if there is a hive somewhere nearby your front door..we have dozens of big bees just hangout around a porch..today about twenty were just sitting on the wall of our proch...I was like wow...I've always noticed them flying across the windows, when I looked out of it..but I didn't know they were really that close....

Well I thought about it and I came to the conclusion that we can't kill them... they are saying there is a shortage of bees and if they all die out, there would be no cross pollenation and there would be no food.

is there a safer way to get rid of them, I don't even know where the hive is...

My... what beeg eyes you have!
  • are you sure they're not carpenter bees? We have those around our porch and window sills, and esp. our mailbox. They burrow thru wood to make a nest, and can cause damage. They don't sting, but they look awfully menacing, as they're huge

Yeah, depending on where the hive is hands, an apiarist should be able to remove them.

We had a hive in the chimney recently and unfortunately because of its location the only way to remove them was spray. :(

I was told though that had they not been there and somewhere more accessible that they could have removed the hive safely.
    NOPE!!!

I'm responsible for mowing a vacant lot down the street from where I live..

Last week when I went to mow, I noticed that most of the vacant lot was clover.... there were literally thousands of honeybees doing their thing that afternoon and I just couldn't bring myself to mow that lot

    ...I went back home

What am I to do? The city will fine me if I continue to let the clover grow.

I guess I could mow it in the evening after the bees have gone...

    I dunno???

    bees are all over clover
    alfalfa fields
it doesnt kill'em to cut the clover or alfalfa
it might upset their bee community and life style a bit

That was also my first thought.

yeah I don't know, I looked at the pictures of different types of bees online and that one most closely resembled what I saw on the porch...the one in the picture looks a little small.. but the ones I haveare at least an inch long and have more black than yellow.....

carpenter bees are black and yellow, and they burrow into wood. if they look like the picture the OP posted then they look like regular old honey bees, i'm no expert thought but i do know that carpenter bees are black and yellow.

i'm sure if you research it you'll be able to find someone that can come and get them without killing them.

ha! I decided to let the bees take over my shed this summer for this reason...

Funny, I mowed my lawn last week, and when I got my mower out, I had my mp3 player cranked up...didn't notice the hive or any circling bees. When I put it back, the mp3 player was off, and I noticed I was practically being swarmed! I probably was the first time too, but was oblivious...

Now I have to go kamikaze to get my mower out...but I'm not spraying that hive.
