Just the overall sound....the things people diss these two albums for are to me their strenghts.....New production techniques.....more political.....different sounds.....the whole package....I just think they are far superior records to Avacado, that record doesnt effect me emotionally, even the 'soft one' 'Parachutes' leaves me cold, only Come Back touches me.....
More political? More than "Pearl Jam"? I think not.
"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"
Binaural is the most listenable album from Pearl Jam end to end, but it is an acquired taste. I will admit that I was disappointed with it when it was released but that was due to my expectations, not the quality of the record.
Now, i am older and wiser. This is a great piece of work and if you just find the mood of it, you will enjoy it like some of the greatest albums of all time. I am not kidding.
I just spent days on a road trip into the Rocky Mountains, a bit of an escape for me for personnel reasons. Crested Butte was the destination, but lots of driving hours in the sunshine of the plains, and snowstorms off the divide. I can say Binaural was my personal selection for this trip and it kept me company as I was solo.
Just amazing music, and best if listened on headphones I think.
Thanks PJ.

The magic of the Pearl Jam albums is that they are like seasons. I'm not in a Binaural mode right now... but I think I'm sliding back to it. I was massively into that album before... I will be again. The open spaceyness of some of the songs is tremendous. I guess I've been on an Avocado kick for the last couple of months. Before that it was Riot Act big time. Riot Act and Binaural get a lot of crap on the message boards... Don't get me wrong... there are loads of people standing up for them... It's just peculiar that this is a PJ fan site... and there are often posts by people dissing half their albums ... It's not Ten all the time for the real fans.
I know what you mean, i am in the binaural season listening to it alot of my way to work, before that i was into no code for weeks on end, parting ways is there any better way to finish an album
Funny how opinions can vary. I admit I didn't care for Binaural much when it came out but like alot of other CDs it grows on you. It's always getting ashed on this board but IMHO it is the 2nd best PJ record after No Code.
Unfortunately, "Binaural" is my least favorite Pearl Jam album. I just can't get into songs like "Sleight Of Hand" or "Gods' Dice." I do think, however, that the album's songs are much better live.
