This is the first year I have done fantasy sports, and I'm doing my first draft in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any tips or anything? I've been reading over the Yahoo and ESPN projections, but I didn't know if it's smart to go for a #1 pitcher in the first round or to stick w/ a guy like Wright, Reyes, Ramirez?

  • Depends on the type of league your in, but it's generally not a good idea to go after a pitcher in the 1st or 2nd round. The reason is, the best starter can only help in 3 categories, while there are hitters that can contribute in 5 categories, at least in rotisserie style leagues. The only pitcher who even merits a 1st round pick is Johan. Pitchers are also much more likely to get hurt, and can also hurt you more. An 0-4 is just an 0-4 or 0 points. A pitcher getting bombed can hurt you bad

ETA; Yahoo and ESPN are two of teh worsts ources for rankings. Pick up one of teh fantasy magazines (I prefer the ones that rank players by position as opposed to the one s that list players alphabetically. Those are good, but outdated, so also pick up Sports Weekly's fantasy baseball Special out now. Also go to mlb.com or cbs.sportsline.com and print out a list of injured players so you don't grab someone early who's out for the year.
