Mr Beachdweller vaca’s in DC

so I've been to DC a dozen times, but all business. This time it tourist and PJ fan.

Today I walked the National Mall, covered it all, from the Congressional building to the Lincoln Memorial, and everything in between, though I only did brief incursions into a few museums. Saving that for tomorrow.

I walked with my Mega eV ipod playlist going, basically Ed's Berkeley II show, missed in with songs from Berkeley I and Santa Cruz that he didn't play BII, and some other random Ed solo stuff from the past. It provided for an amazing and at times, powerful, audio back drop.

As I walked up to the congressional building "Masters of War" blared...and walking away "Dead Man". Hearing the "Into the Wild" songs as I walked toward the Washington Memorial was cool. Walking up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial "Arc" started to play, and it sent a chill down my spine, it also warmed my soul though. When I was slowly walking past the Vietnam Memorial, "Here's to the State" was playing, and my pride swelled a bit, recalling my 12 years of service in the Army, but worked to be stay educated on the world around me.

Thomas Jefferson said "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be"

I got to say, many a day when I'm either discussing with others, or continplating on my own, we really have the ignorant part down pat.

Anyway, it was an honor to spend time amongst the WWII, Korean, Vietnam war memorials, along with the memorial to either medics or women. I have 3 great pics of this, but never did read the plague I'm afraid. I really liked the status at the memorials, the subtle details were special, the uniform creases and equipment they wear in the field.

It was a great walk, and I'm looking forward to walking to the Jefferson Memorial and hitting up some museums tomorrow with friends.

As I'm signing off, PJ's covering of Uncle Neil's "Throw Your Hatred Down" w/Uncle Neil's participation is finishing up, so I must be done.

I went there once but need to go back to see some more stuff. I didn't realize how long that reflecting pool was until I walked along it..:p
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

Hiya Mr Beachdweller. I'm in DC right now as well. What a beautiful city. I had no idea what to expect and have been pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is and how friendly the people are. We were at the Mall yesterday as well. Did some shopping today and are doing the Smithsonian tomorrow (well as much as we can). See you Sunday . . .

    Cheers! :)

so it's 1230am and I'm just getting back from the Nationals game, had 7th row, dead center, behind home plate, and got a 14 inning game tha the nationals finallay won with a man on 1st & 2nd, and a true base knock between the SS & 3rd baseman. Had a blast, nice park, it's no PacBell, but still very nice experience.

messed up my ankle Friday, got kicked (accidentially while standing on the metro train to the baseball game) and may have torn a ligament, though overall it was an amazing day, spent 6 hrs in the emergency room yesterday at the George Washington U med center, cause I wanted the full DC experience, lol, anyway, ended up talking with a gentlemen in his 70's who say my PJ tat, and we talked awhile. He said he is a retired professor, use to teach college courses in Missoula, and said he had Ed and Jeff in a class in the mid 90's. I didn't press him hard on this, but he was very knowledgeable about the band. Regardless of the truth, I believed him myself, it was just a cool conversation.
