Tampa Bay Devil Rays ...

If I read one more time that "The Rays are here to stay" or "The Rays are going to be good for years" or "The Rays are not going anywhere" or something to that effect, I think I'll just have to stop following professional sports. Truly. People are such bandwagon morons sometimes. Has a single "sports journalist" not said this remark recently? How many times has a team had a good season, only to totally bomb later on? Did everyone say that the Colorado Rockies are "not going anywhere" last season?! Shut the fuck up already. If the Rays actually make the playoffs for the next couple seasons, THEN unpack all the "new dynasty" remarks. Are they playing well (excluding the last three games)? Absolutely. But how do you know that they're really not going anywhere?

Rant over.
:)

EDIT: My bad. They are no longer the devil.
Just Rays.

P.S. They officially dropped the "Devil" part out of the name. :D

The 5 game lead they had 4 days ago is down to 1 1/2 games.
They are on a 4 game slide.
They have still played 9 less games on the road than the Red Sox.
Much tougher schedule in the 2nd half for them.

    They have improved.
They will finish 7 games out in 3rd place.

you're just upset they used your name and didn't pay you a penny
    in royalty fees. ;)

They are probably in the bottom 3 in average attendance. kind of
hard to find a bandwagon with those numbers let alone jump on it.

    I agree 100%.

I dont see this team finishing any better than 3rd, for the reason you mention and the fact that young arms usually falter late when it matters most. The entire staff is young, not just one or two of them.

I may be in the minority here, but this is a crucial time for this team right now today. Not how they handle September, or late August. Right now. They had a 5 game lead on Boston 4 days ago. They have lost 4 in a row. Lets see how they bounce back (if they do), and then how they keep pace after the break with the sox and yankees. If they can keep pace and hang around within 1 or 2 games over the next two months...impressive. I dont see it happening.

I was wrong. This team is still hitting in the clutch, the young arms are not getting tired, and the pressure is not getting to them. Seven weeks to go and they have a 4.5 tame lead on the sox and 8.5 on NY. Unless the sox make a move when they play each other, they are going to be hard to catch.

    This is very impressive.

  • just a few days ago, I really thought they would be there all year. But with Crawford and Longoria probably done for the year, the innings adding up for the pitchers, I smell a massive collapse coming

We shall see this has certainly been a strange year for sure.
