I'm getting one shitty-ass refund this year! :(
Yeah, I know rebates (which I still think is retarded) will be coming this year...but fuck!
Basically I'm getting 1/4 of what I got last year.

Anyone else do their taxes early?
Hopefully you made off better then I did!

do all americans pay their taxes like this... its doesnt come from source??? in the UK we just get taxed every month straight off our salary..

or is this a whole different tax?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

They take it out of our wages, but we also have to file yearly. Depending on how much you make (plus other factors) you can get a chunk of the money they took from your wages back. If the gov. doesn't take much from your wages, you may end up owing them.

I haven't done my taxes yet (don't have all the forms), but I heard that the IRS will be slow giving us our refunds; they're not expected til May. So I'm in no rush to get it done. :(
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

I'm self employed and as such pay estimated taxes based on what I make vs. what I should be able to write off. No taxes are taken out of my check. Of course I am quite hopeful about the possible items to write off, but have yet to find an accountant who agrees that an addiction to porn and my book of the month clubs have anything to do with selling real estate.

how can you pay your taxes before getting your W-2's?
  • I did mine last week. It's funny how you can get so much back from Federal and barely enough to by a burrito on the state return.

May is when they're expecting to get the economic stimulus rebates out, your income tax refund shouldn't take any longer than usual.

Thats actually good! Getting less of a refund meant uncle sam took less out of your check each month and you had more NOW reather then LATER when you get that rebate check. You basically didn't give the government an interest free loan. If you really want a bigger refund (which is nuts...I'd rather have the money in my weekly paycheck rather then have the gov't hold onto it for me), then get a W4 and claim higher dependents. Problem solved!
Hail, hail the lucky ones, i refer to those in love.

    Still Looking for the above

Yeah, I agree. I'd rather they NOT get an interest free loan off of me (bastards! hahaha). I think part of why I got less this year is because I made quite a bit more and am in a different tax bracket.

Oh well. Death and taxes right? ;)

actually, the fewer dependants you claim on your w-4, the more you get on your refund. you can claim any number on your w-4, but on your taxes you have to claim the correct number.

i claim 0 on my w-4...which gives the biggest refund (i am getting $1100 back). yes, i know i could get more on each check instead of giving the government an "interest free loan"...but, no matter how bad a job i do of saving money during the year, i know that i will get a good size check every february....

This is the first time I've waited this long to do my taxes. I'm usually able to prepare them from my last paycheck stub of the previous year AND i'm usually in desperate need of the cash so I make it a priority to get it done.
I changed jobs last year and I had a bit of profit sharing from my previous company so I need to wait for all the paperwork to come in the mail before I can file my taxes. I'm really curious to see how it all turns out. I took a higher paying job last year even tho I lost a lot of benefits I was receiving in the lower paying job. I'm still happy I did it even tho I'm just as broke :(
I'm hoping I get enough back to buy myself a bass guitar. That's the only thing I wanna do..........I'm 38 years old and I love music sooooo much but I've never been able to play a lick of it so I thought THIS IS THE YEAR!!
