Thoughts on his comments anyone? I must say it's interesting to hear an athlete use the term "sloppy seconds" during a media scrum.

He's not a very good hockey player.
He's not a very good teammate.
    He's not very good looking.
He's fucked if he thinks those 2 girls weren't "sloppy seconds"
when he hooked up with them.

That said, a fine would have been sufficient. I don't think the NHL should
    have suspended him.

True, but he should have been dealt with long ago anyway.

    bingo.

but watching the guy play night after night in NY, he can play when he wants to and shows flashes of real hockey talent (good skater, good shot). unfortunately for him, it is all hidden behind his wall of ignorance.

they suspended him because they were afraid of what might happen in the game. Would he take a run at Pinauf (or however you spell his name) and/or would Calgary run at him. Best to just keep him off the ice for that game.

oh and he is freakin' nuts and needs some counseling. and how did he get Elisha Cuthbert in the 1st place?

Thanks for making the Stars the most hated team in the NHL. We had enough problems before you got here.

Teammates hate him. Turco and Modano spoke out about it yesterday.

From a non-Stars fan, you aren't the most hated team in the NHL. You got guys like Turco and Modano who'll say the right things, and the organization is handling it well too.
Avery is definitely the most hated player in the NHL but it isn't really reflecting on the team.

While Avery may be a huge distraction and a douchebag, for him to be suspended indefinitely for using the term "sloppy seconds" seems a little extreme doesnt it?

Yeah. Thanks. I just hate it. We have some really good guys on this team and this douchebag has to bring everyone down.

Reflects a little poorly on Brett Hull's GM skills.

I wish Morrow was here to kick Avery's ass.

Hockey sucks, and this Avery character.......... Is he the one that's big into fashion and especially women's handbags?? Maybe the hockey is just to boost his masculinity scale back to an acceptable range.

I don't understand what problems you speak of?

Its not Avery's fault that the Stars are in the basement. I'm sorry, but he doesn't play defense, and Turco couldn't stop a beachball at this point.

Avery's a tool. The best thing would be for every team to blackball him like Ray Emery. Make him realize that no one wants such a jackass even playing on the continent.
I do wonder about the league's ability to suspend a guy for saying something offensive and disgusting. They haven't been too heavy when punishing racial slurs, including those out of Avery's mouth, in the past. Do they even have legal grounds?

I can't complain about Stars management. My team once signed a rapist.

I think the league went overboard with the suspension. HOWEVER, I would have 100% agreed with Stars management if THEY chose to suspend Avery. I think the right thing would have been to let the Stars make this decision.

In summary, the Stars said they would have suspended him anyway if the league hadn't, however I think it should have come from the Stars though.

agreed. the whole stars organization, from the players to the GMs, are saying the right things. it'll be interesting to see how they try to get rid of the guy. can't imagine they'd want to pay his whole salary just to keep him in the AHL.

Last night on Countdown Keith Olbermann mentioned him in his "Worst Persons In The World" segment. He agreed with what pjhawks said regarding the reason why he was suspended. The way he described what Avery said was hilarious.

Avery's comments were obviously inappropriate but the league should have bigger priorities like figuring out a way to stop all the hits that lead to head injuries - I.E. - Randy Jones' hit on Patrice Bergeron.

agreed. the league has to tackle some big issues that are happening every night on the ice, not a comment that some people found insensitive.

the elbows, the slashes, the slew foots, the decapitation attempts, the hits from behind, etc.

but it's sean avery, guess all of the serious things get put on the back burner when avery's name makes the tabloids.

Avery's actions at least let 99% of the US population aware that the NHL still exists. That said, his comments were pretty mean but not enough to warrent a suspension. If anything, they should increase ratings whenever the Flames and Stars play. People pay to watch the villian come to town.

    Honestly....

Who cares? Hockey should be happy that people even know it exists. Suspending a guy for making a comment is ridiculous. You can go out and bash a dudes head in with your fist but you can't run some smack to the media.
