OK here is the deal...our closing has been pushed back 2x now. We were told we could close by the 27th. Then it was Fri. Now we just got the "clear to close" this AM. My wife and I need to be out of our apartment at the end of this month.

a couple things.....Once you get the clear to close, how long does it take to get stuff ready to actually close?

If...out home insurance has started and we have a clear to close could we store our stuff in the house.....

I don't think you can store stuff in the house till after you close unless the current owner agrees.
My passing was pushed back due to the septic contractor and it f'ed me a bit. (including paying insurance for a month on a house I did't yet own which realy pissed me off)
If they are clear to close, should just be a matter of getting a time when all parties can get together, but the holiday weekend may screw things up.

    Good luck
    This weekend we rock Portland

aren't these questions that you should be asking your realtor???

We we were all penciled in to close at 1:00 today......so I dont know why we cant close then....There is no real difference in getting a clear to close at 3:00 on Thurs....to getting it at 8:00 am on fri......We should be able to stick to our closing time...

It takes about an hour or so to close on a house... just be prepared to get hand cramps from signing your name and initials a thousand times.... no big deal...

    title work, recording documents, etc.

if the title work is done and the lawyers have crunched the numbers, then you should be able to close fairly quickly.

all you need to your check book

    closing costs suck
    good luck

usually a lot of certified checks....a couple personal are acceptable for smaller costs...but indeed, closing costs suck. close to 10k when the smoke cleared. good ole NY. :p

and whoever mentioned hand cramps...sweet bejeebus! i don't think i have ever signed.initialed my name so much in one day ever before...or since. it is a scary process, getting so financially responsible.

Well yesterday we were told that if we got the clear to close (3 pm Thurs), we could still close by 1:00 (Fri.)

Now we get clear to close 8 am (Fri).....Why cant we still close at 1:00 or even later today? (Fri)

    ask your lawyer man

he/she should be able to tell you what needs to be done.

and if you havent already set up a meeting for today

I am guessing it wil be very difficult to get the necessary parties together.

We were all set and penciled in for 1:00 on Friday, if we got the clear to close on Thurs.

Now we got the clear to close not too many hours after that (8 am Fri)....Why we cant still get together at 1 is beyond me.

Its a totally different business day and also the day before a holiday weekend... good luck but I don't think the close is happening today. As was mentioned talk to your realtor, lawyer, and mortgage company... no one here can answer any of your questions.

I'm an escrow officer in Washington.

Who is setting these appointment times? Your realtor? Or your lender? Or the person thats actually taking your signature? Sometimes other folks involved in the process overcommit for me when they should let me maintain my own schedule.

Things change for various reasons. Maybe your loan documents aren't to the escrow person/attorney yet?

As far as the timing of closing, after you sign, a lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes that you aren't even aware of as a consumer. Sometimes the courthouse has specific rules about the time they do recordings. That could have something to do with the craziness with the timing.
