Obama & Clinton fall out

I'm an old hand on political message boards, and on the one I'm currently active on, there's a distressing trend I hope will pass.

In a nutshell, the antagonism between Obama & Clinton supporters is so strong, in a poll one member created, half the people participating said they will not vote for Obama should he choose Hillary as his running mate.

Is this a common sentiment or is it fallout that will clear as time goes by? Personally, I don't care for Hillary, but the idea that McCain could win because so many people trash their vote has me reeling.

What do you guys see going on? Being Canadian, I'm not in the loop, so I rely on these message boards to get a sense for what's in the air (which may not be the greatest barometer).

Thanks for whatever insight you offer

If he chose Clinton as VP it would kind of go against his whole 'change' sales pitch, don't you think?
  • Obama's promise of change have made him the new "it" candidate.

He has become the new "fad" with people flocking to him simply because it is the "cool" thing to do.

Many of his supporters are fanatical and over-zealous to a fault. They vilify Clinton, she was not just another candidate, she was a "cunt".

There are t shirts proclaiming this, a nutcracker figurine, and many other derogatory products. There were galleries of photos of her making odd faces that made the rounds through email with subjects such as "what a bitch".

These over zealous Obamites were so focused on being on the "winning team" that they fail to realize the two candidates were very similar.

I think that when the Obama and Clinton supporters cool off and start to focus on McCain, for the most part, they'll vote for him, regardless of running mate.

exactly... there was a 24 hour political race between the two for a year and a half. Even in the couple of weeks since she dropped out, the attitude has softened a lot from most of the Clinton supporters that I know.

As more time goes, and more and more McCain is portrayed as the bad guy, and once Clinton hits the campaign trail for Obama, things will get that much better.

I can see some die-hard Clinton supporters staying home on election day, but I can't think of one real "issue" reason (other than spite) for a Clinton supporter to vote for McCain.

this is the fallout of waging campaigns that centre around tearing the opponent down vs. elevating oneself through ideas and accomplishments ...

    My thoughts exactly.
