Uninformed electorate

She thought that since she's a registered Democrat she had to vote for Obama.
Maybe they should give you the rules or something when you sign up.
How about not registering for any party? But still permitted to vote in a primary...problem solved.hippiemom = goodness0 -
scb wrote:My god, people, what are we going to do??? Half the people I hear talk about the election don't seem to have a basic knowledge of the issues, the candidates, or the electoral process. If I hear one more person tell me Obama's a Muslim, or, even though they don't think abortion should be illegal, they would never vote for a pro-choice candidate, or they strongly support [whoever] but can't actually articulate ANY concrete reason, or they're upset that they can't vote for McCain because they're registered as a Democrat, etc., etc., I think I might spontaneously combust!
Now I'm not saying it's only McCain supporters who or ignorant, or that being ignorant is the same as being stupid, or that I'm as well-informed as I should be. But I just think it's a tragic joke when many, many people vote based solely on the fluff crap propaganda we get from much of the media & elsewhere.
Why can't we have an election where the candidates lay out their issues - pros AND cons - in a straightforward manner, everything that's said must actually be true, we don't even know what the candidates look like, etc. and we vote based on a true understanding of what's going on? If they really believe their positions, voting records, & experiences are right, those things should be able to stand alone as a solid platform for their campaign - not who wears flag pins and how they do their hair.
Sorry, I've just heard a lot of ignorant comments today and it makes me sad and afraid for our country. Rant over.
Who are you voting for and why?The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

Well, when the "Lysergic mist" is near Boise. You're bound to run into those typesNERDS!0 -
The election process in America is broken. Plain and simple. Many people don't even vote, and the majority of those who do vote aren't voting based on issues that are important to them. They're voting based on personal qualities and speeches of the candidates. Very few people actually think about what issues are important to them, and align themselves with candidates who have proven themselves beyond their words.
If you want change, you have to stop thinking about how to fix the election process, and start thinking about how to fix the problems you're seeing in America.0 -

she was so upset.
her obama yard sign was graffiti-ed last week, then it was run over.
i just put a new one in her yard.
that's the mentality, folks.
I had two Bush yard signs taken and spray painted in the last election cycle. Pissed me off but don't think this sort of thing only happens to Saint Barrack.0 -

No it happens across the board and no matter who does it it is wrong. On that note a friend of mine had a Darwin fish magnet on his car and one day some one broke it in half and left it on his windshield with a note saying "Hope you enjoy hell!" It's not illegal to express your views but it is illegal to destro someone's property."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

My friend thought so as well. He couldn't believe that someone would go through so much trouble to break his magnet."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

Sometimes I think people should have to pass a test before they are allowed to vote. It should have questions such as "Did Iraq have WMDs when the US invaded?" If someone answers yes to this question they are automatically disqualified and don't get to vote (or their ballot goes into a different box and is not counted).0

Um, this is nothing new. Nobody gives a shit about the issues.
Democrats blindly back Democrats. Republicans blindly back Republicans. Rock musicians and actors blindly back Democrats.
It's retarded. Oh, wow, we have a whopping TWO whole candidates to choose from to preside over the entire country for FOUR FUCKING YEARS. It's a ridiculous load of B.S. and I for one cannot stomach it.
Oh wait, I'm on the Pearl Jam boards . . . YEAH OBAMA RULZ LOLZ!!
(To be fair, on Christian websites I always support McCain, because, you know, God's likes Republicans better.)0 -
I can't believe that so many people fell for the Obama being a Muslim lie. It's so ridiculous. Do people even do research? Do they read anything besides People magazine?
After the last two elections, I just don't have any faith in anyone to make an informed decision.Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 20160 -

tell me about it. i have idiots like that in my own family. it's gotten to where i can't even sit in the same room with one uncle, since he represents to me everything ignorant, closed-minded, hostile, greedy and self-absorbed. i can honestly say that he and his wife sicken me. AND they're regular church goers, like doing that makes up for the fact that they have the stingiest souls i've ever had the horror of interacting with. their hollow piety makes me want to to vomit.
unfortunately, they seem to share alot of the same ideals with most republicans i've known over the years. as a result, i really don't think i could ever even CONSIDER voting for ANY republican.
i agree that there is ignorance on both sides, but to quote john stuart mill (1806-1873): "Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid, it IS true that most stupid people are conservative.""Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."
"Obama's main opponent in this election on November 4th (was) not John McCain, it (was) ignorance."~Michael Moore

I vote for homicide. Yeah, that's right. Kill them. Kill them ALL!!!! You can't educate these people, so don't bother wasting your time. The only option is to eliminate them from the voting populace. What we need right now, more than anything else, is a full on motherfucking genocide. Give folks a test, which will determine who lives and who dies. It's really too bad that folks like Hitler had to go and give eugenics a bad rap, because I think the gene pool could really use some industrial strength bleach right about now."If all those sweet, young things were laid end to end, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised."
