I am definitely the Black Sheep in my family. My oldest brother has since joined me as well.

I am. I'm from the Bible Belt and most of my family are extremely conservative, but I'm extremely liberal.

I just ignore my grandfather's barrage of forwarded Obama's-a-terrorist-type emails. (He sends those out to everyone, regardless of their political beliefs.)

My dad and I sometimes get into big debates about politics over email and I just have to stop responding at some point, but it doesn't ever get nasty or anything.

I try to appeal to my mom's sensible side and she sometimes listens and even agrees, but she pretty much thinks it's her duty as a Christian to vote Republican.

My little brother actually ran for local office as a Republican. I campaigned for him. Later, though, I tried to talk to him more about some of the issues and he completely disregarded everything I had to say just because I'm a liberal. That, coupled with a few other issues, caused a huge rift in our relationship.

My sister's somewhat more moderate, but doesn't like politics and doesn't vote. I finally convinced her to register to vote recently. We can sometimes have good talks about politics, but she generally just doesn't want to talk about it - it just depends on her mood. I have no idea who she's voting for or if she'll really even vote. (I don't think she knows either.)

My brother-in-law loves to talk about politics, but will argue with you no matter what you say - liberal or conservative. He basically just likes to argue and I've gotten used to that.

My mom and sister are the only family members I hang out with a lot. Since they're not militantly Republican and don't generally talk about politics, we get along fine. It's usaully me who brings it up. But if I saw my grandfather, dad, or brother more often, it might be a problem.

I don't know if that answers your question, but that's my experience.

yeah. it tough. and its not so much how they vote that bothers me. its that someone i care about so much feels so different that gets to me.

guess thats what makes this country good in ways . IDK.

  • i'm sort of in the closet right now. my dad and brother are religious foxnews watchers. whenever politics comes up (all the time) i just emphasize how unconservative republicans really are.

My dad is conservative, but not a religious freak or anything. Just doesn't drink and likes to help others. Noble guy really.

He just watches Faux news too much and he thinks O'reilly is great.

Where I'm a liberal/independent and would like to see Faux News burn to the ground. :)

I don't know about my family but my ex-wife (an Obama volunteer) and co-workers are shocked I'm sold on being a Obama supporter.

I know just how you feel. Maybe if politics weren't important and personal... but they really are!
