ELF eco-terrorism in Seattle

If it's true that the Earth Liberation Front was responsible for burning down multi million dollar houses, whaddaya think?

I do understand the the motivation but think this is pretty misguided. I live at Ground Zero for land rapers. If there's a buck to be made, bring on the bulldozers. But will anything really change? There's a Hummer dealer up the street and while I could see fire bombing their lot (I hate those freakin' Hummers!), I never would. At most, these things are probably nothing more than temporary headaches for the money men.

It's kinda like the animal rights people who set laboratory animals free, only to see the animals get hit and killed by passing traffic. That being said, I hope the ELF people don't get caught :D!

I hope they discover the ELF peoples' charred remains in the burned down houses. Fuck them and their terrorism.

Burning down shit only means that they rebuild....using even more wood and other natural resources in the process....if they burn homes and businesses in an area experiencing drought....then they are helping to waste water....the hundreds and hundreds of gallons of water used to control/put out such fires. It also means that insurance companies may raise rates on Average Joes' homes.

I'm big in the movement to save our environment, but terrorism is terrorism.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

That is sort of what I was thinking. I mean unless the people building these houses are the worst run development company in the world burning these houses down is not going to stop anything. All they will do is file a claim with there insurance and start again (or take the insurance money and go somewhere else). The only people who take a hit are people who have policies with that company since it will indirectly lead to their rates rising.

it's a fine line ... in my dealings in the eco-world - without these extremist groups - people don't listen ... also, it makes more moderate groups seem easier to deal with ... people are more willing to negotiate with moderates because of these extreme groups ...

ultimately, without greenpeacers storming toxic waste dumpers out in the ocean - it would continue to happen without consequence ... unfortunately, we are too caught in our own lives to notice things that don't shock us ...

That is interesting, but do you ever get the reverse happening in your dealings where people totally write off the moderates as being the exact same type of people as the extremists? Since I could totally see that happening.

I agree completely. You can't be going around and destroying other people's property. I'm sure they'd be pissed if somebody found whatever lilypad they live on and destroyed that. Or is that different somehow? Why can't somebody have something that is nice without somebody else doing something like that. I don't have a Hummer. I don't mind others having them. They get great gas mileage compared to most boats. A 20ft boat gets between 2 and 4mpg. That's why boats of that size have 60-120 gallon tanks. What? Banish boats? Burn them? Are they next? Maybe nobody should have anything. We can all wear Fidel Castro's green/grey colors unless on some bright day we decide to dress like Chairman Mao. By the way, what gets released into the air when a yard full of hummers, or a block of houses burns down? Last time I saw it on color TV, it wasn't green. And the wasted water. Risk of life to inhabitants, wildlife, firefighters. Then it all gets rebuilt, right? You'll all know the answer to that when you see your next rate hike. These are just a bunch of whiney little people who need to get their backsides ventilated while in prison. Like the other sickies and arsonists. I agree about "green", I don't support terrorism.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

not really ... the reality is tho that if these protestors acted conventionally - no one would listen ...

And when they act radically nobody listens (PETA for example). And when groups take it even further (ELF / ALF) not only do people not listen to their cause, they alienate people. For example, these builders who had their houses burned down were attempting to integrate some green building methods. They were targetted with signs saying "Built green? Nope, black!". So for their efforts they were targetted and had their homes burned down. If I were them I'd rebuild them with no green practices.

I have no desire to listen to ELF's message. I have no sympathy with their cause. And I wish them no success in their efforts. I wish them all short and miserable lives.

Great points. You've brought me around to seeing this as SERIOUSLY misguided idealism. Still, though, I hate to see rich housewives driving huge SUV's to the mall. SUV's which could do better on gas if our goverment mandated it. But, like you say, I guess it beats living in Cuba.
