If you watched the whole show ... like I did ... I thought it was a little over the top.

Did he lie to Letterman? yes.

But, Letterman was like a man possessed all night ... hell, he even had Keith Olberman cringing.

Just think he laid it on a bit too thick.

  • I think he laid it on exactly as was deserved. Olbermann wasn't sincerely cringing - surely you can't be serious that Keith Olbermann would consider anything Letterman said about McCain to be over the top. If you've ever seen Countdown, you understand how ridiculous that point is.

Your hugely anticipated presidential candidate is set to appear on your show in the middle of a political circus unseen in decades. The candidate, who is a friend of yours and whose campaign is taking massive hits left and right, cancels almost literally at the last minute, saying he's rushing out to Washington. But what he's really doing is taping a different interview, two blocks away, at the exact moment he's supposed to be on your show.

    How would you react?

Yeah, Dave was on fire. And it was awesome. Watch a montage of the show's best clips at the bottom of this article:

    9 minutes of goodness.

p.s. Furthermore, Dave brought up a damn good point: if the candidate is tied up for a couple days, standard procedure is that the VP NOMINEE TAKES OVER. What happened there? (rhetorical question... we all know exactly what happened)

9 minutes? ... he did it for the whole hour ... again, that's my point, not that Letterman wasn't in the right, it was just a bit thick.

    just my opinion

been watching Dave since I was a kid ... I know it's his style ... and he needed it last night, as, he had nothing prepared without McCain.

Hell, I wish Dave would go back to his home state of Indiana and start stumping for Obama ....

McCain's campaign is starting to circle the drain...if he shows up to the debate tomorrow night...he will be embarrassed again.

Yeah, he sure was leaving on an airplane for Washington that instant. And Letterman wasn't the only one to catch it. On an interview with Dodd, which was a broad swipe at McCain, Dodd mentioned that even though McCain said he had to be in Washington immediately earlier in the day, in fact during the Bush speech during Mountain Standard Time, he was sitting in New York. Enough with the overacting and drama, McCain. I just want you exit stage right.

David Letterman slammed McCain for the second night in a row. McCain had been schedule to appear on his show on Wednesday night but cancelled to return to Washington in order to negotiate an economic bailout plan.
