  • To me, God = creator, the master planner. I have never really doubted that God exists. I have always felt that the universe is just too "big" for science alone. Although I have a lot of "whys" and "why nots", and have issues with organized religion and a general distrust of words written "by God through man", I still believe.

God implies to me an entity with these qualities:

    Omniscience
    Omnipresence
    Omnipotence
    Omnibenevolence

As described in the Christian faith. Although I realize deists use God to describe a benign creator. An entity that doesn't involve its self with human affairs, answer prayers or anything like that. It would certainly help if different terms were used to describe different concepts. But I don't believe any of that stuff anyway.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

When I say the word "God" I mean the God of the Bible, because that is what first springs to mind for most people in the west. I do this simply for clarity in conversation, not because this is the God I believe in. I am an atheist and don't believe in anything that in any way resembles any god I've ever heard of.

    speaking strictly for myself...
God=The great whatevertheheckitis that's out there because surely, we are not the greatest creation in the Universe.
    ...
Man created the Holy God that appears in all of these religious texts. For example... The Ten Commandments and all of that... it's Man's Law. We just say it's God's law to strike more fear in us to obey them.

God to me is a man made word and entity that has been used to corral people. For some it gives them hope and thats great, for others it's a crutch. :) I personally have no use for it. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I will find out someday though. ;)

why do you find it curious? humans are very inquisitive creatures. we have an insatiable need to know who how when why what and where. we have to make sense of things, tis just human nature. :)

I rarely use the word God, precisely because of the general connotations it has. When referring to the christian god I intentionally drop the capital g to underline that point. So what I understand with "god" is usually the christian god. Now when it comes to what I think most people think of as God without the dogma, that's when I start to talk about forces, the divine and animism. No authoritative, interventionist, god-king needed.

ah, i will only say this, when i say "god" = it's an exclamation word for me, and doesn't mean anything meaningful

see what i have always said abotu god is that "it is that which nothing greater that can be ever conceive" therefore anything can be a god. Pearl Jam can be your god, even crack can be your god, hell you can be a god if you believe that you greater than anything that can be concieve.

what do you all think about that?
