Inaugural Events Could Cost Over $40 Million

Should they cutback on the Inaugural events due to our tough enconomic times? As a point to being the man of change and could he set a new tone for the country?

For me change or no change if other Presidents partied and celebrated then I'll say this to Obama,
Party Like It's 2222 the End of Time.

I think he should tone it down.

  • Not sure...

But even if they tone it down some, it will still be an extravagant celebration, so it's not like people are really going to notice that it's scaled down.

And also, there are probably some vendors and event businesses who's budgets for the year will be made with such a huge production. Cutting back a lot could hurt them.

It appears up to 4 million people are expected here in DC for ALL OF THE CELEBRATIONS.

It appears they're going to party.

A great majority of those people are going to attend the actual inauguration and won't be a part of any of the balls....

I have a feeling it will be a sensible celebration and maybe not as lavish as some previous affairs.

Right I was speaking overall the celebrating is done. Some just want to be here to say they were here in town and a part of history. I'll miss it all and my house will be filled with family and friends to schlep downtown in the cold while I'll be in Palm Beach Florida staring at the Atllantic Ocean.

this was my thought and was going to be my question. so unless these private funds get donated to charity in lieu if the inagural basll, i see no real 'point' in toning it down necessarily. for many people in this country, the fact that obama DID get elected is a momentous occasion, even moreso than other past presidential wins...so sure, celebrate!

however, if they actually DO choosae to donate funds to worthy casues instead of, that would be awesome as well.

i know that due to the economic climate at the moment, my firm has decided instead of hosting our numerous individaul group holiday parites - opurs was meant to be held at tavern on the green this year - the firm will be donating an additional 1.5 million to local NYC charities to help those in need durning these down times. i think that's a damn fine choice. :)

so sure, whatever obama chooses...i'm cool with it. i do personally think it's a major cause for celebration...so either/or...it's all good!
