Happy Veteran's Day today and this is a National holiday right? The New NewYork Times doesn't mention it on their front page and the same with The Washington Post.

More respect needs to be given to the Veterans of the US they don't choose to fight these wars they're usually ordered.

    National Holiday for state/local/govt employees - most people I know have to work.

    SHOW COUNT: (164) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=108, US=118, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
    Mexico=1, Colombia=1

  • I think Verterans Day should focus on current veterans issues, including the two ongoing wars, VA, VA Medical, homeless problem, etc.... I loved to see media focus on this in some way, and there is some, but more importantly, and kind of a pipe dream, I'd like to see Americans nationwide to take an hour of their day learning about veterans issues, maybe writing their state and federal representatives, the President about needed focus.

    Memorial Day can deal with our past verterans, especially the fallen, but today is Veterans Day. What does that mean in a general sense across the nation?

    I will be going into work today, at the VA. And I am honored to do so.

    Hi, hi, hi,

    Grace and family of PJ:

    I was campaigning for peace yesterday, trying to celebrate that people are willing to lay down their life for freedom...

    When we think about Veterans, we think about people in the miliatry brandishing weapons of some sort or troops falling in line...

    What we forget is that these people were willing to sacrifice their families, their physical well-being, and even moreso forgotten their emotional and mental well-being...

    I wish and pray and humble myself to anyone who has worn, or wears a dog tag...as well as to families.

    peace and joyous love...

    the best way i can honor is to try to gain that music within....xox.

    These are the only people carrying the weight of these wars... the soldiers and their families. They have earned our respect... I just wish that our Nation (the rest of us) took better care of them.

    so very, very true. i have heard of instances where survivors of vets can't even qualify for social security survivor benefits until they are d*mn near retirement age themselves; the fed always finds a loophole for denial.

    may light shine on their needs and may they recieve blessings in abundance..

  • Agreed. Growing up I remember Vets day/Rememberance Day as a big thing, here in Atlanta, it's treated as an afterthought: schools open, no parades or ceremonies, basically just a Tuesday. But in this town god help you if you try to compare it to the 3rd Monday in January...
