While I was driving past The White House today a thought came to me and I want to ask my AMT friends.

OK I was thinking of that Michael J Fox movie *Back To The Future* and put it in reverse sort of.

So let's go back in time to THIS DATE in the year 2001 (11/6/01) and your best friend tells you they just came back from the future. He or she tells you I know who's the President Elect of the USA in 2008 and says he's black and his name is BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.

Tell me people what would be your response to this............?

I'll tell ya mine later. :)

Who the hell is Barrack Obama? Then I'd go to Vegas and put money on the 2008 election at incredible odds just like this guy would.

I would tell you now that we as a country need to get over all of our bigotry. And any kind of "negative" reaction the Obama's middle name is just that.

That was part of the idea of bringing out this response as to show how far this country has come since this date 7 years ago. I can recall ALL of the negativity towards people of Middle Eastern decent and mattered none whether his middle name was Hussein or Sam. At that time in 2001 Saddam Hussein was NOT a factor as yet at least not outwardly, all focus was on Afghanistan.

Just a name like Barrack Obama at that time in 2001 brought on negativity. Also at that time if you were already a bigot you were going to say something negative, good thing today we've moved far enough along to elect someone with the name of Barrack Hussein Obama.

Yes..but sadly if he was a muslim he would not of made it very far and if he was more critical of certain countries, he also would never of had a chance.

So if the person who came back from the future provided me a list of his policies and views. I'd believe it, "Yeah sure he won, he's just like everyone else, only has a very exotic name"

But nevertheless, it's still pretty amazing that a black guy made it to the white house. Now will he be different enough? Well I dont need a DeLorean with a Flux capacitor to tell you the answer for that one. :D

I honestly misjudged the U.S., because if I would have been asked even four years ago that a black man named Barack Hussein Obama would not only be the Democratic nominee, but also the President-elect of the United States, I would have said no way. So many things about Obama are opposite of the kind of candidate we usually elect, besides the obvious. We usually elect rural, emotional, "salt of the earth" types who we want to have a beer with. This time, we elected the reserved professor from the inner city of Chicago. In regards to race, I just wouldn't have thought the country was ready for that, even just four years ago

Sounds good that can be his new nickname *The Professor* much better than the nicknames that have given to George W Bush.

At the time, I was devastated about 9/11 but never had any anger towards Arabs or Muslims though. I actually took 2 college course related to Islam/Middle Eastern culture because of it.

If a friend would have told me about Barack Obama being the new President, I'd probably look up and see who he was. ;)
    P.S.
also it's ....spell his name right dammit! :p;)
