Seems like thes days everything is up for sale and now Gatwick Airport. Loved flying into this airport rather than Heathrow which is so congested.

Anybody out there flown through Gatwick Airport?

Here's the story...BAA's Chief Executive, Colin Matthews on the sale of Gatwick airport
The UK's second-largest airport, Gatwick, has been put up for sale by its owner BAA.

  • If Heathrow is more congested, then it must be a real f'ing zoo. I've flown through Gatwick three times and although it is a small airport, it took about 2 hours each time to get through security / customs. It appears to have been designed by a bunch of stoned 12 year olds...

I think what has happened is that it wasn't designed for the amount of traffic that is currently going through it.

I live 50 miles from Gatwick and fly out and in about 3 times a year. I wouldn't call it small but it is always very busy. They've been told to sell one or 2 of the London airports to increase efficiency but I have no idea if anyone else will do any better. As previously said there's an enormous amount of traffic.

    I've flown from far worse.

Yes, unfortunately 8 hours worth of layovers. If it weren't for the pub on the second level. It'd have been even more dreadful.

How much duty free merchandise do we need?

Would it kill them to put flights gates and flight times up more than 30 minutes before departure?

It's not the worst airport in the world, fairly small but fairly efficient. I just don't advise anyone to take a long layover good luck sleeping anywhere.

Went thru Gatwick 6 years ago on the way to Greece it was alright. I remember it being small but very sectioned off for security. Lots and lots of congestion. Virgin Atlantic flights though they were awesome.

It's been 5 years since I've been through Gatwick so much has probably changed since then. I've been throw Heathrow several times in that 5 year period and it was delay upon delay there.

Here on the east coast most major airports are going through expansion or some sort of renovations which never helps all the delays.
