VALENCIA, Spain (Nov. 17) - The Earth is hurtling toward a warmer climate at a quickening pace, a Nobel-winning U.N. scientific panel said in a landmark report released Saturday, warning of inevitable human suffering and the threat of extinction for some species.

UN Panel Offers Dire Warming Forecast

Is this planet truely in peril?

  • I was hearing now the estimates are appreciable reduction by 2012 or were facing big (big) problems.

I mean....when you think about, just look around at all the cars and people, and think how much juice (oil) were all using. So many people so many cars.

It's unbelievable....everyone is doing it, everywhere around the world, every day.

Then there's all the electricity being used, factories using oil 24/7 to produce every single product you can get your hands on.

That's a lot of oil burning. It's insane when you stop and (really) think about it.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

it's already in peril ... people have blinders on ... or really just don't give a shit ...

there is no water in georgia - so, what do they do? ... they pray! ... like wake the fuck up ... the planet is like the human body - when something is wrong - it will let you know ... right now, we got a fever, headache, severe nausea and diarrhea to boot ...

the cyclone that hit bangladesh could have a death toll of 8,000 ... not including all the suffering of those that survive ... 8,000 of the poor and people we generally don't give a hoot for ... it is how it's going to be - the poor will suffer first and most ... while those causing the problems will only wake up when it is in fact too late ...

you really like to make shit up just to fit your agenda. Iran needs decades to make a nuke when its actually 3 years. and from reports as of today 3000 people have died in bandladesh, not 8000. and you seem to have such a holier then now attitude as if you as perfect and everyone else is the problem. do you drive a car? then you are part of the problem. and do you really give a shit about that planet? or just switch out some light bulbs and proclaim you are saving the world...

Bangladesh's Red Crescent society says up to 10,000 may have died.
Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!

The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.

hahahaa ... you and your continued accusations ... are you gonna man up and prove me wrong this time?? ... or keep quiet and say nothing like all the other threads ...

first of all - as for your 3 years to make a nuke - i acknowledged the difference in reporting i read from the summer and now ... unlike yourself - i can admit when i might be mistaken ...

secondly - if you read what i wrote ... i said could reach 8,000 ... they haven't even come close to reaching the more remote parts of the country ... all the aid workers are saying relief is coming too slow ...

    from http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2007/11/19/bangladesh-update.html

Authorities in the south Asian country said Monday the number of dead has topped 3,100 — a jump of almost 1,500 since Saturday. The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, the Islamic equivalent of the Red Cross, said that figure could climb to 10,000 once rescuers reach all of the storm-affected areas

and lastly - your attitude is typical of someone who has not the ability to be objective and listen - who cares what i do or whether i own a car or whatever ... i could be the president of the largest plastic manufacturing company in all the world - it still doesn't change the message ... you are too quick to become defensive that you miss the point completely each time ...

anyways - if you got a problem with me personally - say so - put me on ignore but don't continue to accuse me of something and then not back it up ... it just shows pettiness ...

I dont have a problem you with at all. but with the global warming issue you come off as if you are perfect and everyone else is the problem.

well, as of today, 3000 people are confirmed dead. sad story over there huh? lets both hope you are wrong

well ... i see this goes the same way as the others ...

i don't claim to be perfect - i don't use "WE" in each of my posts for no reason ... i include myself in "WE" ... it still doesn't change the fact for as long as i've been on this board i've said it to be the single biggest crisis facing life on this planet ...

I'm reading a great book right now called "The World Without Us". The book discusses, in hypothetical, what would happen the the planet if humans where to just dissappear. It explains, in great detail, the extend of the damage we have caused on the environment and how it could talk hundreds of thousands of years to reverse the damage we have caused.

hundreds of thousands of years is still just a tiny tiny tiny blimp on the radar. mass extinction of humans is inevitable. all we can do is try to conserve our limited resources

It is a tiny blimp on the radar but all of this adamage has been done in the last 100 years or so. Even after we are long gone or footprint on this earth will remain for thousands of years. The pollutants we put into our oceans, ground, and air will live on for milleniums.

you couldn't listen to me when i've been warning you all along. this announcement should have been made 10 years ago. like i said before; we're way past the point of pointing fingers. in fact; we're past the point of saving people because the ice is melting faster than these pencil pushers know.
this is when politics really piss me off.

I read a article in National Geographic a few months ago that stated that our predictions on glacier melting was totally off. The rate at which they are melting is far quicker than any scientist could have predicted. Every year the rate of melting quickens because with less surface ice to reflect the sun's heat the hotter the glacier becomes. One glacier they focused on in the Andies Mountains has almost completely dissappeared in the last 50 years.

we are all well aware of your apocalyptic views. I think we are safe for a few more generations. things are beginning to change and people are realizing the earth is a limit resource.

dude; all i can say is thank you. you're the first person to acknowledge how the rest of the world is being effected. north america will be the last to feel the effects. it will start when the water hits the tundra and that part of canada dissapears into the ocean. naturally it's too late but that's when we seem to want to act. we claim to be so smart (humans) yet look how we act.

there was a report recently released that indicated this ... global warming and climate change perpetuates it ... the more warming the more melting and the more melting the more warming ...

It's not just about resources. The pollution we have pumped into our environment is still there and we don't even know the full extent of the damage.

Here is an example. Plastics, we still do not know what will happen to plastics once the eco-system starts to biodegrade them. There are certain elements within plastics that will be released into the environment one it's molecules start to breakdown. POPs (persistent organic pollutants) will be released into the environment so as of this date we still have not felt the full impact of the damage we have caused.

yes we are. i admitt that i am. i don't want to be but society demands it. i'm not trying to pass my faults off on society; but i got out of society because of it. when i reached the age of impression (about 13); i lived in a small town where everyone knew everyone else. i didn't have 1 set of parents; i had several. so did every other kid. we were safe because no matter where we went; the adults there would watch over us. if i came home and said "joe's mum yelled at me" my parents knew that i deserved it.
i wanted to find that kind of society again and i did. i'm moving to another town that's the same way. the problem is that 90% of the people here never heard of global warming. (here meaning where i live). and that 90% are solar and living a "zero footprint" lifestyle. mostly because they want to retire early and it can be done if you don't have any bills. my sister spent the weekend here for the first time and her and her husband were amazed at the lifestyle. they're coming back in a couple months to learn more. they live near chicago and are caught up in the rat race; then they come here and it's a totally different world.
we are selfish. i watch out for myself. i love my neighbours but i come first.
