THE PLEDGE:
"The America I believe in doesn't torture people or use cruel, inhuman treatment; doesn't hold people without charge, without fair trials, without hope, and without end; doesn't kidnap people off the street and ship them to nations known for their brutality; doesn't justify the use of secret prisons; and does not rob people of their basic dignity."
Did you know:
-There are still 355 people being held in horrific conditions in Guantanamo, only 15 of which are considered "high value detainees."
-Only 10 have ever been charged with any crime.
-there were 110 incidents of harm/suicide in 2006 alone.
-55% of detainees have not been determined to have committed a hostile act towards US.
-The US offered large bounties for the capture of suspected enemies. 86% were not arrested on the battlefield, but by Pakistani or Afgan authorities, who then turned them over US authorities.
-23 PRISONERS ATTEMPTED TO HANG OR STRANGLE THEMSELVES IN AUGUST 2003 ALONE.
Should Guantanamo Bay Prison be kept open indefinately and continue to imprison those there forever without charge?
Peace

I can't remember which shitbag it was specificaly, but one of the douchebag nominees at the FOX Republican Debate said something to the effect of "I think we need to have more Guantanamos, and expand the first one. Fill em up. Show them we mean business."
Yeah.
Just fucking great buddy.
Lets imprison everyone that doesn't have blonde hair and blue eyes.
That will show 'em!If I was to smile and I held out my hand

Its funny, I've posted several times before about Gitmo and it seems very few people care. Even here. Gitmo is a just another reason why people all around the world look at the U.S. as a blowhard hypocritical nation. Words from Washington mean nothing. They can talk about freedom, the rule of law, human rights and many other things, but it's a crock of shit. This particular regime has gone out of its way to manipulate things to circumvent these noble concepts.0

I don't get the feeling that people, even those here, "don't care" about gitmo.
I think the problem is just that Guantanamo is such a specific piece of the total bullshit-pie that is this administration's policy and war, that most who are enraged have acknowledged the injustice of it, but are focusing more of their energies on the bigger picture.
In other words, yes - i am sickened by gitmo, but to me it is just one of the many symptoms of this administration, and the war specificaly. Possibly for many, a focus on just that small piece is hard to manage. They are constantly distracted by all the other rage they feel, and find it easier to focus on "the war stinks" or "i hate bush".
Just a thought. If I was to smile and I held out my hand

I love these modern day death camps the US proudly owns and operates...
really fucking nice...Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

And yet I wonder why so many other countries don't seem to like us all that much after seeing the good we do in the world."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -
it needs to have been shut down long ago
I'd love to ask all those in the Bush administration that think that keeping prisoners at Guantanamo Bay is some kind of necessary evil when in the hell did evil ever become something that is remotely necessary?*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
