Is this going to be the spot PJ fans are staying like in 2003? I already booked my room there...anyone else?

I was going to stay at the Pennsylvania but tripadvisor.com reviews were pretty bad, a few reviewers said they had problems with bed bugs. It was a little more expensive but we are staying at the Affinia Manhattan which is also by the Garden.
  • It's NYC...and its right across from MSG. Not a bad price at all.

  • Those rooms are like $250 a night and that's with AAA discount. I'm already dropping $484 just for tickets. I'll shop around a bit.
  • Got a room with 2 beds for four people for 2 nights for about $80 a night per person at Hotel Penn.

Unfortunately I don't have 4 people. It's just me and my BF. I already found something 2 blocks away and it's only $179 a night. I'm still looking around though. June is the start of peak season so everything is expensive.

Terrible hotel.Employees are rude and the place is a dump. Spend the money and stay at a nice national brand hotel. Sure its expensive, but its NYC. Everyplace is expensive. Your only gonna stay at a place for 3 nights probably anyway,so you might as well split the cost with another person or even 3 or 4 per room.

I'll let you know after my room is booked, if I decide to use that Hotel.
  • I wont even be able to tell you how the service is...I'm gonna be trashed and probably just pass out. Just looked for good local, place people stayed in 2003 and a good price for NYC. Hotel Penn had that when you put everythig together...its the place to be.

  • I am staying at the hotel grand union, it is .5 miles away and it is only $165 a night, has private baths and got good ratings on trip advisor. It was the best price I could find with a private bath that was close.

    That's sharing a bathroom, right?

    No thanks.
  • Good luck at the Penn. Most of the rooms are snake pits. For convenience it's great, all you do is walk across the street when you exit MSG. If you don't mind walking or taking a cab there are many small hotels that you can get for $150-$200 but you need to do your homework to find them.

Please, can anyone give more hotel options for NY?

I am going from Mexico City.

Hotel Pennsylvania is a dump. They are planning on tearing it down to build a new office tower as soon as they get all of the the approvals so there's no motivation to keep it up. It's convenient because it is across the street from the Garden but in general that area doesn't have much else - bad restaurants/no ambience or character.

I'd recommend staying elsewhere and getting to the concert via cab, subway or walking. However, I'm not sure what you're looking for - cheap price/good value, good location or nice amenities - but it's all here.

I've heard good things about Hotel Belvedere in Times Square as a fair value/moderate hotel. It's an easy 15-20 minute walk or 2 stops on the subway to the Garden.

For swankier options, the Soho Grand is one of my favorites. I also like the new Bowery Hotel - great rooms and a good bar. It's right next to the former CBGBs. I know a lot of people who like the W Union Square too.

For super cheap, I've had friends stay at the YMCA on the Upper West Side (right next to Central Park) and said it was ok for it being more or less a hostel.

Priceline and Hotline are also good options. Check out one of those inside bidding sites to get the scoop before you bid.

    Good luck.

Hubby and I are booked in at Hotel 41 near Times Square. Not a bad price for where it is and looks pretty decent. Previously we've stayed at the QT and Washington Jefferson. However, the QT was brand new when we stayed there and very cheap.. its prices has since rocketed :(
PJ Virgin.. till the Astoria :)

How did you get $80 a night? I have been checking and the best I can do is $277 w/ parking and taxes. AAA price. I was looking for a regular room, but all that comes up is superior.
May not be staying anyway. Live in Ct, right over the border about 30 miles from NYC, and was doing it for convenience, but seeing as I am spending so much $$ already I may just drive in both nights. Parking will be like $50 a night, tolls $2 and gas. Not too bad. If I took Metro It would be about 1/2 the price, but a pain in the ass.
I hate Metro North, not so much going but coming home. You have to rush to get there after a show. Not for me.
If we go in early, like 2 or 3 we will miss the traffic. Pick up our tickets and go to Hard Rock for a few drinks and something to eat. Sit by Mikes guitar and see who else shows up!
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

Hotel Penn is a dump. I would never step foot in there again. We reserved rooms there for the 2003 Rolling Stones MSG show and went to the front desk and just cancelled the reservations before we even checked in and went to a nearby Hilton. As everyone said, this is NYC...don't expect rooms to be the same that they are in Jackson, Miss.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.
  • you get what you pay for here.....if you don't care about a place being a complete dump(and there is) then you'll be ok, but for me i'd rather shell out the extra to not be totally grossed out
