Bill Moyers Journal: Buying the War

In the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, the government's claims about weapons of mass destruction and terrorist ties to Saddam Hussein went mostly unchallenged by the media.

Four years after "shock and awe," how the government sold the war has been much examined, but a big question remains: how and why did the press buy it?

Bill Moyers and his team piece together the reporting that shows how the media were complicit in shaping the "public mind" toward the war, and ask what's happened to the press' role as skeptical "watchdog" over government power.

The program features the work of some intrepid journalists who didn't take the government's word at face value, including the team of reporters at Knight Ridder news service whose reporting turned up evidence at odds with the official view of reality.

Buying the War includes interviews with Dan Rather, formerly of CBS; Tim Russert of Meet the Press; Bob Simon of 60 Minutes; Walter Pincus of the Washington Post; Walter Isaacson, then president of CNN; editor at large of The New Republic and author Peter Beinart; and talk show host Phil Donahue. Noted media critics Eric Boehlert and Michael Massing are also interviewed.

This airs on WETA @ WETA.org 1:00pm EST give it a watch

This programs shows what role the media, the press in print played in influencing the public into believing what WMD Saddem Hussien of Iraq had.

At the time (2002) did you believe what you were hearing leading up to the invasion of the war???

To me it stank from the very beginning way too much bombardment of how he has these WMD and if anyone dared to question they were classified as dissent and a traitor. The Washington Post in DC printed over a million words on Iraq 36 words by Ted Kennedy when questioned evidence of these WMD's. Remember what happened to Phil Donahue.

Her's some of what was aired @ Buying The War.

Bill O'Reilly starts his smear campaign against Bill Moyers.

Do you remember this nonsense of a press conference two weeks before the invasion into Iraq? Take a look @ Bill Moyers Special Buying The War in Iraq Part I.

Will our media ask the tough questions when it comes to war with IRAN?

A Circuliar Leak and Part 9 and I hope the same mistakes will not be made again.
