Random Acts Of Kindness

Any random acts of kindness out there that has happened to you or you've done for other's? Here's one that appeared in our paper today...What's Lost? More Than A Wallet.

Last summer I took my daughter to a minor league baseball game she was very excited since she paid for her way in. It was dollar night and she took her wallet with everything she saved up $30 plus her school ID and library card.

We enjoyed the game and I even caught a ball gave it to her and she got it autographed. We left with smiles all around however upon our arrival home we realized she left her wallet at the ball game. I couldn't get her to stop crying, she cried for almost 2 hours.

The next day I decided to give it a shot at the ball park's lost and found. I called no one answered but I drove 25 miles out to the park anyway. I found the park office and I asked if a child's wallet was returned and the lady searched and pulled out my daughter's black wallet. She was never more happy to see and get her wallet back. I insisted they make an announcement at the next game to whomever was so gracious and kind to return my 10 year old's wallet.

Peace

That's wonderful! Thanks for sharing that!

According to Dr. Wayne Dyer, when we act out an act of kindness, we get a feeling similar to taking a hit of prozac. Further, the person receiving the act of kindness, experiences something similar to taking a hit of prozac. And thirdly, those "witnessing" (or hearing about) such acts of kindness, experience a feeling simlar to taking a hit of prozac. This is why we need to weave meaning into our life endeavors! We can wake up our whole brains and interact, awake and consciously, including receiving the full benefits of our birthright potential! :):):)

  • I returned a wallet with $20 at a water park...my friend told me I was stupid for not taking the money.

It made perfect sense to me at the time to just give it back the way I found it.

Why didn't my friend think the same way, what happened to him to him to want to steal out of opportunity?

Hatred towards others in general I suppose. Pay it forward so to speak. Intolerance encompasses our lives. Where are we taught this?

Were not born with it....I look hard towards the media....there is a story to be imposed there...

    That is great.
And we do get a sense of some kinda fulfillment or whatever
when we do random acts of kindness or have random acts of kindness
    done upon ourselves by others.
That is the way it should be.

Back in March my friend Michael Franti and Spearhead played the 9:30 Club in DC, I flew up from Palm Beach, FL for the show. It was sold out and I had several extra tickets and with a pass I had which allowed me to go in and out of the club. It was freezing cold out and this barely clothe group of hippies from West Virginia bared the cold asking for tickets.

They had no money and appeared to be hungry. They asked several people for free tickets and people laughed at them. I'm not sure if it was the way they were dressed or their dreadlocks or their apparent need for a place to sleep and shower.

I struck up a conversation with them, laughed with them asked them how they knew about MF & Spearhead? I told them who I was and my relationship to the band and so on. Well they wanted to continue on there quest for tickets so I told them to stop, I'll take care of that, I gave them 4 tickets and $10 bucks. One of the women probably 20 years old broke down and cried, I told her to stop and get in there jump around and be loud and proud. oh they ALL gave me a hug and more than anything else that simple act made my night.

It was euphoric feeling and the show took me even higher, I never did see those kids the rest of the night it still makes me smile when I think back on that moment.

It's Daffodil Day here today in Oz and I've just had a lovely fella in a bunny suit give me a Daffodil. :) I asked if he wanted a donation but no, it was just to "spread the Daffodil love" he said. :) Anyway, I thought it was really nice.
Luckily I donated to Daffodil Day last week, so I don't feel so bad. :)

As I go to work each day of the work week I pass by the doorman and security and I politely say good morning and it's repeated back to me. This situation has repeated itself for the last 16 months. Well, today I decided to find out these people's name.

After the usual good morning I decided to ask what the security guard and doorman's their names. They told me and I told them mine and how it's spelt. I repeated their names so that the next time we meet I was going to greet them and say their names.

The look on the security guard's face was one that gave her a feeling of significance, and we all want that feeling of being significant. A great way to start one's day especially on a Friday. TGIF

Not long ago, I was leaving the Post Office here in Pasadena and I spotted this gentleman rolling towards me. Here was a man, well past his fiftieth birthday, cruising along on one of those razor scooters the kids are fond of.

He sported a patchy beard, parachute pants, a groovy t-shirt, and--I kid you not--one of those beanie caps with the propeller on top.

Needless to say, I thought to myself, "Uh-oh...here comes crazy."

He got to about three feet away from me, put his right foot on the ground, looked me in the eye, and said, "Looking good, Big John, looking good."

    My reaction? "Thank you...you too."

And I thought to myself, "Well, he's not crazy at all."

My name's not John, but I was looking good.

As silly as all this was, it really did make my day...maybe because it was so silly, and yet I still smile when I think about it.

The bi-product of this "crazy" guy's comment: lately I've been a little more generous with the compliments.

At work, sometimes, I'll tell someone who is looking a little weary of it all, "I love you." It seems to work.

I don't know about the prozac. I don't know why anyone would take prozac.

I have had many ppl say or do wonderful things to or for me.
I to have done or said wonderful things for others.
For me, I do not know if it is my place to mention such acts
in public verbaly or in writing.
But I will share one huge event that still is in my mind, heart, and soul.

    I was in 6th grade.
The class did a visit to a nursing home.
In the lobby, the head authority whomever, gave us a little talking to.
She mentioned one gal who was wheelchair bound and had disfigurements
about her, a twisted spine or something, hunchback, crippled up and stuff.
She would scoot around the home in her chair and shout, kisses-kisses.
She would pin ppl against a wall with her chair and repeat kisses-kisses.
We were told if she came around we didn't have to talk to her or kiss her.

A group of us were standing in a hallway, about 4-6 of us maybe.
She came out of nowhere and kinda quick like.
Everyone split leaving me alone and pinned against a wall.
She started up with the kisses, kisses bit.
Without thinking, I leaned down and kissed her on the cheek with a hug.

She released me from the wall with her wheelchair and scooted off singing
    some kinda humming type sounds.

A few teachers, nursing home staff, and other students seen this happen.
A teacher, not my teacher, was soooo moved I think she was crying or something.

She asked me what kinda soda-pop i liked.
She bought me a soda and asked if she could sit with me on the bus.
    I'm like, yea sure.
She didn't talk to me all that much on the bus but I caught her starring
    at me alot.

It didn't feel like it was that big of deal.

Today the memories of that day are still clear in my memory.
That poor lady in her wheelchair truely changed alot of ppl.
She is the innocent and the struggles this universe deals life.
She is forever in my soul.

Well, today as I walked through the door for work i noticed the security guard very busy with a phone call and checking in someone. i gave a look and decided to walk on up my 5 flight of stairs when I her say good morning. Not only did she say good morning but she called out my name, I politely did the same to her.

So whatever happened on Friday must have had an impact cause everybody was greeting and saying goodbyes with a name. I thought that was so cool.

You never know sometimes how far one simple act will go and it's far reaching effects.
